Historia
What is the boy crisis? It's a crisis of education. For the first time in American history, our sons will have less education than their dads. It's a crisis of mental health. As boys become young men, their suicide rates go from equal to girls to six times that of young women. It's a crisis of sexuality. Sex is a minefield for our sons. They're bombarded with mixed messages, afraid of being either too sensitive or not sensitive enough.

Could have been done in one third the time
Revisado: 03-24-25
Honestly, while I agree with 100% of the topic material, it is drawn out to the nth degree. I normally wince at "lists," and the many, many lists in this book often overlap and repeat. It is beyond droning. The points could have been made much more succinctly rather than dragging them out interminably. Also, twice he mentions "Mankind Project" (MKP). I was an original member of the New Warriors before it became MKP. MKP has NEVER had programs for boys...ever. Boys to Men Mentoring was started by those of us in the New Warriors and that program directly deals with boys. MKP never did. I was surprised that he said something so ignorant to reality. He should edit the book and mention Boys to Men Mentoring and remove the fallacious references to "MKP."

Historia
In his first major work since The Universal Christ, one of our most prominent spiritual voices offers a wholehearted and hope-filled model for the world today, grounded in the timeless wisdom of the Hebrew prophets. How do we live compassionately in a time of violence and despair? What can we do with our private disappointments and the anger we feel in such an unjust world? In his most personal book yet, Richard Rohr turns to the writings of the Jewish prophets, revealing how some of the lesser-read books of the Bible offer us a crucial path forward today.

Phenomenal Listen!
Revisado: 03-09-25
The narrator is excellent and the content gave my old man brain some new things to think about. It also gave my ten year old self new knowledge about the prophets who were skipped over in Sunday School. Ten stars! 🌟

You are not a victim of your biology! The vast majority of the illnesses that plague us today are a direct result of our thought life. What we think about truly affects us both physically and emotionally. Today our culture is undergoing an epidemic of toxic thoughts that, left unchecked, create ideal conditions for illnesses. Supported by current scientific and medical research, Dr. Caroline Leaf gives you a prescription for better health and wholeness through correct thinking patterns.

Wish I hadn't paid cash
Revisado: 01-26-25
I tried, I really did. It claims to be about science, but the caveat is the science is only possible through biblical verses. It's preachy and confusing. Just open Insight Timer instead and do 15-20 minutes of meditation. You can do that without the proselytizing. If it was science, why not use Buddhism? The narrator sounded like Dana Carvey doing the Church Lady.

Revisado: 05-21-24
I have never read or listened to a Hannah book that wasn’t tremendous. This is another home run from this author. Some interesting twists and turns and, as usual, some deeply emotional moments. The narrator is truly phenomenal and makes the characters come alive. Bravo! 🙌

Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Evangelical Christians are perhaps the most polarizing—and least understood—people living in America today. In his seminal new book, The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, journalist Tim Alberta, himself a practicing Christian and the son of an evangelical pastor, paints an expansive and profoundly troubling portrait of the American evangelical movement.

WWJD?
Revisado: 01-19-24
I grew up with a woman whose face would be on the dictionary page under "Christian." These people are so far removed from the teachings of the Gospel and the Christ. I could be much more critical, but I can see how easily these people are sucked into the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories and believing lies. I am saddened that so many church leaders have become carnival barkers for the crazy. Religion has become a commodity in the US...it is all about the money and not about the Gospel. This is a brave book and I thank Alberta for bringing it to us.

Maybe I’m a squish. But, having grown up with an R dad and D mom, I long for the days of humility and character that defined my early knowledge of politics. I genuinely was moved emotionally by some of Liz’s words. I also believe that she means what she says and it is not pablum. The book was much, much better than I expected. Brava.

Historia
Heart disease is the number-one killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols - with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol - have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease.

Eye opening
Revisado: 11-05-23
I was recommended this book after the doctor wanted to put me on statins. As of right now I am definitely not going to take the drugs. The narrator is good but he does add a lot of snarky energy to the reading. In any case, it is very eye opening and has motivated me to focus more on diet.
