Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

Amazing and wonderful story
Revisado: 01-06-21
While it might seem crazy to put “amazing and wonderful story” as the title of a book that is predominantly set in the slave struggle, the story IS an amazing one; it’s riddled with hope, happiness and determination of the highest order. I never watched the series since I’ve grown to adulthood and only remember small bits of the show BUT, needless to say, I am very happy I chose to listen to this book. It goes so much further into detail and the words push certain realities towards us much faster (won’t spoil anything but...)...when any major event happens, the previous places and/or characters are simply gone—this portrays the actual life experience of the members of this books. I truly believe, not only about slavery, this is one of the best books ever put out. I’ve read or listened to many books in the last few years (maybe age has done that to me) and this one I simply couldn’t get enough of. The narration of this book was amazing, the detail was amazing, the devotion to the characters/actors of this book are made very clear throughout. I am hopeful that more people can take a simple 30-hour break from parts of their lives to listen to this—if reading is not preferred. It’s even been over a month since I finished and have listened to 4 other books but this one really does stick with the reader/listener. Amazing story and, again, I hope this reaches more and more people and they can partake in the retelling of a truly remarkable family story.

Historia
The Communist Manifesto was conceived as an outline of the basic beliefs of the Communist movement. In it we find Marx and Engels' rehearsal of the idea that Capital has stolen away the work of the artisan and peasant by building up factories to produce goods cheaply. The efficiency of Capital depends, then, on the wage laborers who staff the factories and how little they will accept in order to have work. This concentrates power and money in a bourgeois class that profits from the disunity of workers (proletarians).

TERRIBLE Narrator
Revisado: 03-17-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the narrator actually didnt sound completely clueless. Mispronouncing words and just read like a completely outdated robot. It was the worst narration I have ever heard!
What could Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I have a hard copy of this book and really like it BUT this narrator destroyed the book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Matt Montanez?
ANYONE
