Strange book

This book was recommended by a Maine newspaper. I found much of the book was completely unnecessary, resulting in boring. Every chapter seemed to head down a rabbit hole, so if that was the whole point it succeeded, but it left me wondering why I took the time to read it.

Unexpected and Entertaining

I didn’t know anything about this book other than friends recommended it. It held my attention from the first chapter to the very last word. I also learned or was reminded of the challenges people face in the name of love.

Not what I expected

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The 'well-spent' part of listening to this book was learning about elephants. I did find the seemingly exhaustive research that Picoult did for this book was worth my time; I came away learning something versus just being entertained. As for the usual energy I expect in a Picoult book, this seemed to be lacking.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I learned that I could speed up the reading while listening to this book. The narrator read very slowly.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I probably would not go see this at the movies, as the parts about the elephants were heartbreaking at times.
