What did you like best about Switch on Your Brain? What did you like least?

The information was good, but a good 1/4 to 1/3 of the book was the authors preaching at the listener, quoting scripture from the Bible, etc.

Would you ever listen to anything by Caroline Leaf again?

No way.

Have you listened to any of Joyce Bean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Do you think Switch on Your Brain needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. Because if I want more, I can just go to the corner fundamentalist Christian Church.

Any additional comments?

I didn't know when I purchased the book, I'd have to do so much work, listening hard to make sure that the next sentence wasn't another cleverly deceptive lead-in to her next religious rant or scripture quote. It not unlike the way Paul Harvey (especially in the later years) would be delivering his "Rest of the Story" radio segment, when suddenly you would realize that he was no longer doing his piece, but had actually gotten you to listen to a commercial. You felt a bit duped, and disappointed that he would do that. Rush Limbaugh became a proficient practitioner of this same BS. THIS entire audio book is like that! You'll be listening, she'll be speaking of evidence, studies, research, etc., when suddenly you realize she shifted gears without letting you know and now had you listening to her Bible preaching. The narrator gets a bit sucked into the religious grandiosity, trying to give her voice a "Cecil B. Demille" (The 10 Commandments) quality. "God" becomes "Gaaaawd!" She's really big on Old Testament Books, especially Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy. She cherry picks scriptures to try to tie to her scientific research. What is the net result? You're on the defensive the entire time you're listening, listening carefully to make sure she hadn't just changed tracks on you, and were now in church again. LOTS of work, mind ya! The irony is this: This type of cheesy, deceptive technique for trying to 'sneak' a sermon to us 'non-believers' is just the kind of hypocritical behavior that gives modern day Christianity a bad name. I kept waiting to hear, "Well isn't that special???" Save the sermon for church, church lady!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one I can think of

What was most disappointing about John Burke’s story?

The assembly of words does not a book make. This book is a joke, actually. Here's the kind of sage advice it gives ~ If you're having problems with your relationships, perhaps you should look at them and see what you can do differently to make a change." Really??

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator, to his credit, isn't bad. He just has total crap to work with on this one.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Problem Is YOU?

If I cut out all of the useless, convoluted ramblings, there'd be about 3 pages to the book. It would also be helpful if the author would've tried to assemble the ideas in a logical progression instead of jumping erratically from one subject to the next, with no rhyme or reason.

Any additional comments?

It is a sad trend that some "authors" and I use that term very generously here, are using the tactic of spending 9/10ths of their book to describe or list assorted problems and their possible permutations. But then, they have little or no solutions. THIS is one of those books. I really, REALLY tried to be fair and give it a chance, but finally couldn't take it any more, popped out the CD and threw it in the trash. The correct title to this book should be, "The Problem is This Book". Don't say you weren't warned!

What disappointed you about How to Get on the First Page of Google?

If I could get a refund, I would. This is just a not-so-cleverly disguised sales pitch for this guy's multi-level-marketing company. I thought because of its release date, that it might be relevant

What could Michael Mathiesen have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not write it

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Mathiesen?

Anyone. In addition to the fact that this 'book' is BS, he's a total bore to listen to.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None.

Any additional comments?

Buyer beware
