Enjoyable way to learn history
Revisado: 05-18-24
Having read the entire series, I had to hear this book. It is a quick read and the story draws you in, as in all the books in the series. It is an enjoyable story to help learn about history. You don't come to these books for deep truths or philosophical teachings.

Enjoyable book
Revisado: 05-18-24
It is a great concept to consider the story of Masada from the woman's perspective. Vivid and memorable story. Gives a convincing answer to how the story came to light if everyone committed suicide. A little too much references magic hurt the plausibility.

Interesting idea but not compelling
Revisado: 12-13-23
it is a very colorful tale juxtaposing the life of an average family in India to major events in its history. However, the characters wer not as compelling as I would have hoped and the description of events were quite political and not very insightful for someone not already familiar with the history. The book and authroyare so famous that I was expecting more.

Historia
In 1955, with this short story collection, Flannery O’Connor firmly laid claim to her place as one of the most original and provocative writers of her generation. Steeped in a Southern Gothic tradition that would become synonymous with her name, these stories show O’Connor’s unique view of life - infused with religious symbolism, haunted by apocalyptic possibility, sustained by the tragic comedy of human behavior, confronted by the necessity of salvation.

Compelling stories with great narration
Revisado: 11-14-22
I was glad to get to know this classic author. The stories were poignant and compelling, a slice of southern life at the turn of the 20th Century, the colorful and ugly side of common life with memorable characters. The narration completes the stories accents and all to make you feel like you were there and it really happened.

Renowned and beloved as a prizewinning novelist, Dara Horn has also been publishing penetrating essays since she was a teenager. Often asked by major publications to write on subjects related to Jewish culture - and increasingly in response to a recent wave of deadly anti-Semitic attacks - Horn was troubled to realize what all of these assignments had in common: She was being asked to write about dead Jews, never about living ones.

Interesting personal essays
Revisado: 02-27-22
The anecdotes were interesting and worth knowing. I don't agree with all of the author's conclusions, and I don't find one strong opinion running throughout that she seems to be advocating, but rather it is a collection of her musings that awaken thoughts on the topic of anti-Semitism and Jewish life in America.

From the eerily "real", almost holographic evocations of historical figures like Lyndon Johnson and over-televised game-show hosts and late-night comedians to the title story, in which terminal punk nihilism meets Young Republicanism, David Foster Wallace renders the incredible comprehensible, the bizarre normal, the absurd hilarious, and the familiar strange.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.
