The entire series is brilliant. Culture, character development, nature, the roles dogs play in human lives, good and evil on a see-saw with plenty in the middle.

Historia
On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. But an attempt on the elderly man’s life sends Armand, his wife, Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded works of art. It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

Historia
It’s Gamache’s first day back as head of the homicide department, a job he temporarily shares with his previous second-in-command, Jean-Guy Beauvoir. Flood waters are rising across the province. In the middle of the turmoil a father approaches Gamache, pleading for help in finding his daughter. As crisis piles upon crisis, Gamache tries to hold off the encroaching chaos, and realizes the search for Vivienne Godin should be abandoned. But with a daughter of his own, he finds himself developing a profound, and perhaps unwise, empathy for her distraught father.

Complex character development and riveting plot
Revisado: 02-18-25
This, as all the books in the Gamache series, is a thought provoking exploration of our complicated species. There is a lot to learn from these characters, all while being immersed in the drama of their lives. It will be necessary to read them all over again, at least once to get the full experience. Wonderful!

Historia
When a mysterious figure appears in Three Pines one cold November day, Armand Gamache and the rest of the villagers are at first curious. Then wary. Through rain and sleet, the figure stands unmoving, staring ahead. From the moment its shadow falls over the village, Gamache, now Chief Superintendent of the Sûreté du Québec, suspects the creature has deep roots and a dark purpose. Yet he does nothing. What can he do? Only watch and wait. And hope his mounting fears are not realized.

Conscience vs Law in society - wound up in deliciously absorbing literary baclava.
Revisado: 02-12-25
This is a profound allegory and in a way an inspiring, gripping tutorial, woven into a fascinating, funny and tragic but also hopeful story.
It explores and challenges our favorite Three Pines characters and deepens our understanding of them. They also remind us of the Sapiens and Other animals in our own lives and societies. Good, Bad and In Between.
This is the first of the series I’ve listened to versus reading on “paper” and it was brilliant. The only down side to listening is that highlighting the nuggets was not possible. Until learning too late how to mark lines to remember in the audio app.
Listening to the author and the marvelous reader (actor) discuss the process and the book was a brilliant bonus. Thanks to both of you for doing that.
What shall one do when all the Gamache series are read….woe is me.
