Hard to put down
Revisado: 05-26-23
Ok, this series isn't the greatest of prose to become a revered example of literature studied in schools for generations to come. But it is a damn fun story to listen to! :)
Travis continues to grow as a voice artist. He has been great for years, but I have to say that there is a quality that just has improved over time. Better delivery, the distinction of characters, capturing the story's energy, etc.
Zogarth's writing and editors are doing a great job keeping the content fresh. Nice humor, character growth, interesting environments, relationships, etc. I hope Zogarth continues to grow as an artist here as this is an audiobook that was hard to take breaks from. I look forward to the next.
By the way, I am reserving 5 stars for books that are good enough that I feel it impacts my daily productivity. I am giving the story 4/5 stars, not because it is bad, but because it missed the mark for being excellent. This was a fun book, but overall to the bigger picture, it was filler. Fun filler - but like a donut, I am left wishing I ate a proper meal afterward. I hope that book 6 will be a nice dinner feast.

Historia

After Will’s resounding successes in the war with Darrow, the king plots to eliminate his young rival. Driven to desperation, Will is forced to negotiate for scraps between four brokers of power.

Deleted my review?! Wish I could zero star it
Revisado: 05-22-23
I have no idea why my review was removed. I have been a huge fan of this series and a LONG time Audible customer. If you look at the previous books with over 2k reviews each and this one with less than 1k - one has to wonder if there wasn't a mass removal of honest reviews in hopes of selling more books.
Here is the fact - I'd skip this last book. It is just bad. It doesn't fit the story; the characters are all doing things opposite to what they believed before. So many things are bad.
Reynolds is excellent, as always, as a voice artist. If it were not for him reading the book, I am not sure I would have finished it.

It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. Unbelievable characters
Revisado: 04-16-23
One character is a strategic genius at chess, yet is otherwise a whiny moron.
The other main character is a jerk to be a jerk. Lost in a new world, but it's a jerk to everyone and refuses to accept the inherit magical aid that classes and skills give. Would you avoid any possible survival advantage in a world where you have nothing and know nothing?
The larger premise is interesting and reviews on book 2 indicate that the author might have gotten better. Book one is painful unless you enjoy the stupidity of others. Then these character's insanely moronic choices will entertain you endlessly.

Solid entry, not quite as good as the first
Revisado: 01-29-23
While Ray Porter has great talent, it does seem like some of the character nuances were lost in the second book.
Overall, not enough happens in this story. It feels like somewhat of a repeat of the first book in plot lines. Other then some minor discoveries, you could probably erase this book off the face of the earth and the third book could pick up from the second book with a small paragraph of what's happened over a few months.
I don't know if the author reads these. If so, I would express that I love your books and feel that from a reader I don't need people being arch villains or mentally ill or whatever to add conflict and tension. The idea of a group of people just trying to survive in such a crazy situation is super interesting. It's not to say such things wouldn't happen, and it's interesting to explore, but I repeating the idea of insurrection again and again feels played out. I look forward to seeing what you come up with around the other challenges a group like this could face.

Just a miss for me
Revisado: 11-21-22
I really love Ryan's other series.
I'm not sure it's just the wrong voice-over artist to match the tone of this book, or if it's just the story itself.
I felt it was trying to make too many jokes for jokes sake. The voiceover artist is very talented, but his style does not match that of a "young" crab. just the wrong fit in my mind.
The book was a struggle to get through. I rate things on how hard it is to put away the audiobook. Noobtown caused me to have a couple sleepless nights because I wouldn't stop listening to it.
Sorry Ryan, I have been loving your work so far. This one just missed the mark for me as an audiobook.

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over. For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters. Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end. He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 06-15-22
I found that I didn't want to put this audio book down.
It is funny, because the main character is completely overpowered and has no ability progression really. Yet as a slice of life, it was great.
I am excited to see where the next book leads.

Say hello to the new and improved Clyde Hatchett...who's only a level-four nothing. He's on a (seemingly never-ending) quest to get back to his life in Glaton. And now, all that stands in his way are the Empire-hating Carchedonians, a death cult, and a traitorous party member. Oh, and a mythical city that very probably doesn't exist.

Disappointed - 7 & 8 should be 1 book
Revisado: 06-13-22
This all feels like a money grab and loss of direction from Eric Ugland.
While I do value the talent of Neil Hellegers, I have to admit that every character has the exact same tone. Basically, depressing snark. Partly this is due to the content Eric is providing. Still, the constant inflection on "sure" that is the same for everyone is getting tedious. Would I like some variety? SURE!
While the world Eric made is interesting, this series has stalled in many ways. Great start, the first few books were super hard to put down. I guess the benefit of splitting up what should have been ONE book into two is that by the 7.5-hour mark, I was happy to move on to another audiobook.
This is exactly what happened to "The Good Guys" as well. Two books with no progression that should have been one single book anyway.

Another solid entry into the series
Revisado: 04-22-22
I have to admit that the first quarter to half of the book wasn't catching me up as the previous Noobtown books did. However, it caught into gear and finished strong.
This is somewhat of a bridge book. There is progression, but nothing explored in any great way. There is a lot of setup for future books. Still, even with that, the interplay between characters is fun, and there are some great laugh-out-loud moments.
Unlike some bridge books though, the combination of Ryan's writing and Jonathan's voice performance made the book almost impossible to stop listening to.
I am hoping that the next book takes a bit more time to delve into the details of the world. While there were new unlocks and revelations, it seemed that they were only covered in a very surface way. I'd like to know how unlocking classes will affect the past restriction on multiple magic systems in the body. I hope we get more details on how the barrier and other artifacts work. etc...
The only other wish I had was that this book was a good 10 hours longer.

Oh no! I finished it!
Revisado: 04-16-22
I love this series. Events happen, the story moves. I find it super hard to put down. There is just a great way that the author let's things happen in the background that aren't necessary for us to slog through, but instead focusing on the main plot. I never get the feeling that thestory is stalling from any lack of ideas or fear to finish.
I am trying to reserve 5 stars to books that are so good I listen to them super fast and they are captivating enough to interfere with my daily schedule. This entire series is that. My imagination loves it, my productivity can't wait till I'm done.
There is one glaring issue though that removes a star. The author, publisher, or both clearly decided to break this book in two for more money. I understand the need to earn an income, expecially with the cost of living going up. This was a poor place to end or should have been written to break here more naturally. It is more obvious when you look at the length of the earlier books and see how this and the next, added together, is more comparable too the previous volumes.
