Historia
Since she started penning dialogue for Some Day My Prince Will Come - a cheesy dating show that features bachelorettes competing for the heart of Spencer Dalworth VII, a very distant heir to the British throne - Jaine's life has been a royal pain. She's been fending off golf-ball-size bugs on the sweltering tropical island and having her patience tested by an irritable production crew and the fierce contestants who will do anything to get their prince. But Jaine never expected murder to enter the script.

Fun & hilarious
Revisado: 07-01-24
Jaine & her cat never cease to make me laugh. Perfect palate cleanser or beach read audiobook. Narrator is so pleasant to listen to & sets the pace well. She can perform a variety of “voices” & makes the book even more hilarious.

Narrators are AMAZING
Revisado: 03-11-24
The narration makes this audiobook what it is. The story is easy to follow and enjoyable overall. I did get sick of certain things appearing again and again, but if you like basic fantasy romance, this will check boxes for you.

Historia
Declan can kill with a blink of his eye. Jaded and cold, he rules his kingdom the same way he does his heart—with ruthless pragmatism. So why does he risk all to protect a little mortal during a slave-trade uprising? Now stranded in the demon realm, the loss of his powers is the least of his troubles. The woman may have a frustratingly tender heart, but she has enough fire in her soul to thaw the ice in his veins.

Nice romance book, but TRIGGER warnings.
Revisado: 01-08-23
“Little Fire” was recommended to me on social media. I started listening to it thinking it would be a YA fantasy romance. Nope! This is a fairly spicy book (18+ only) and does contain lots of trigger warnings—including sexual abuse, blood, cursing, and PTSD/trauma reliving.
However, I did enjoy the storyline, partly because I’m a sucker for a “touch her and you die” book trope. ALOT of the book is dedicated to the MCs “getting to know each other” in bed and it got a little annoying as there wasn’t much action for a few chapters. The author did manage to weave a nice little world and a sweet redemptive romance, but I was really surprised at how prevalent the MCs traumatic history played into the story.
The magic in this universe is interesting, but nothing too special. Male MC is the typical “all powerful” man and female is “strong but still relies on him”. I personally enjoy these kinds of books, but I know not everyone does.
The narrators (both male and female) were pretty good—although I prefer the males voice without the accent. Just a preference, I’m sure everyone’s different.
I did purchase the sequel and will be listening to it. Overall, it was an interesting story, but it may not be for everyone.

It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her, and leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want.

Great book for fans of Hunger Games & Bachelorette
Revisado: 01-03-23
I really enjoyed this first book. I saw lots of similarities to the Hunger Games trilogy, but enjoyed the building of the new world.
I would recommend this to young teens. It has a little romance, but not enough to make you blush or anything like that.
The narrator is….just okay. Not my favorite. Her voicing of the men in this series is not great, and she comes off as over dramatic some of the time. Listen to a sample before committing or speed up the text.
Great start to a world, ready to start the next one.

The selection began with 35 girls. Now, with the group narrowed down to the Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's love is fiercer than ever. The closer America gets to the crown, the more she struggles to figure out where her heart truly lies. Each moment she spends with Maxon is like a fairy tale, filled with breathless, glittering romance. But whenever she sees her first love, Aspen, standing guard, she's swept up in longing for the life they'd planned to share.

Better than the 3rd book, but slow
Revisado: 01-03-23
This book had very little tension & did little to live up to the fun of the first book. The whole back and forth love between the MCs is getting a wee bit frustrating.
Narrator is whiny at times, but overall does a good job. I highly recommend listening to a sample before committing.

The time has come for one winner to be crowned. When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown - or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose - and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

A nice (but a bit rushed) ending
Revisado: 01-02-23
This book was a good ending to The Selection trilogy. I felt like the ending was hurried into the last 3 chapters, but it was overall okay. I was getting a little frustrated with the MCs about halfway through (just get married already!!) and felt like there wasn’t enough drama so the book was slow in the middle.
The narrator is okay, but I’m not a fan of how she voices the men in this series. They sound a little…female to me.
Overall, it was a nice little world to get wrapped into and I enjoyed the series. Finished the trilogy in 5 days flat!
