Historia
In Underland, hope has nearly been extinguished. All things living and undead exist under the dominion of the Dark Lords, whose power is all but unlimited and whose evil is all but eternal. Sorcerer Valdemar Verney is not one of them. The last of his line, Valdemar has devoted himself to locating his grandfather’s realm, a legendary place called Earth, where there is air and vibrant life. His latest attempt to uncover the way to Earth is thwarted, however, when the cunning Dark Lord Och captures him—not to imprison him, but to nurture Valdemar’s talents for his own ends.

Best in class of the tired "reincarnation" trope.

Fast pacing while building world and characters.
Revisado: 01-21-25
This book has some very unique and intriguing ideas along with good world and character building. There are plenty of mysteries to be solved and an interesting universe to explore. The title does a great job at expanding the plot quickly, keeping things interesting and not getting lost in unnecessary filler.
The voice acting and performance is really well done and each character feels different.

Historia
In the underground city of Caverna the world's most skilled craftsmen toil in the darkness to create delicacies beyond compare - wines that can remove memories, cheeses that can make you hallucinate and perfumes that convince you to trust the wearer, even as they slit your throat. The people of Caverna are more ordinary, but for one thing: their faces are as blank as untouched snow. Expressions must be learned, and only the famous Facesmiths can teach a person to show (or fake) joy, despair or fear - at a price.

Slow burn with a great end
Revisado: 06-05-24
The story starts of slow but slowly peels away layers revealing a unique story and world with an ending that resolves the mysteries and connects the dots in a great way. Definitly worth the listen.

Historia
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

A strong start and fun adventure that doesn’t quite pan out.
Revisado: 01-24-23
I’ll start off by saying I really enjoyed this book throughout for what it ended up being. It’s a fun story with great narration and has a very interesting “magic system”.
My problem with the book is that it gradually spirals out of control in scope to the point that the beginning of the story losses touch with the ending. The fun magic system is lost and the end of the book NEVER resolves any of the large plot points that develop over the 20 plus hours. If you like books that take you full circle then this isn’t for you. The events in this book feel as though they should have been spread out between 3 and even another is needed to flush out the ending.Furthermore the title of this book is misleading as it has very little to do with Jakes shop past the first few hours.
Now that the bad is out of the way I will say that the book had me hooked on listening to the end. I found the characters likable and the story intriguing. While the story loses touch with its scope it’s still a fun ride. The narration is also very good and the comedy hits pretty often. If your looking for a fun adventure with some interesting ideas and elements then you might want to check this out. Just be warned that the ending will likely leave a lot to be desired.

Historia
No one remembered when he'd come to the mountains - it seemed that Preacher had always been there. He'd seen a great deal in the unmapped mountains and forests of the grand North American frontier. In fact, he'd just told a friend that he wasn't surprised by anything anymore. But Preacher hadn't seen Nova Roma yet. Suddenly, Preacher is faced with the strangest, most dangerous army the High Lonesome has ever seen. It's leader is a blood-mad fanatic right out of the ancient history books. All Preacher's got on his side are his brother mountain men.

Very different from previous books.
Revisado: 09-13-19
The story here is interesting but not what was expected based on the previous books. This story seems like more of a sci fi mash up than a historical fiction book. While the story was interesting, it was not what I was hoping for out of this series.
