Historia
In this myth-busting book, Daniel Lieberman, professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University and a pioneering researcher on the evolution of human physical activity, tells the story of how we never evolved to exercise - to do voluntary physical activity for the sake of health. Using his own research and experiences throughout the world, Lieberman recounts without jargon how and why humans evolved to walk, run, dig, and do other necessary and rewarding physical activities while avoiding needless exertion.

Good listen, nothing earth shattering
Revisado: 04-27-24
Mainly good sound advice on exercise, its benefits and how to treat it. The more novel aspect is the author’s ability to frame the information against an evolutionary background, helping to answer questions about why and how this became important.

Belief changing
Revisado: 10-14-21
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read, based on its impact on my thoughts and belief system.
I am not a religious man, and my belief in God has always been strained by what I have considered some very difficult questions:
- If God is all-powerful, why does He allow so many innocent people to suffer?
- Why are some people so blessed while others live through poverty and pestilence, through no fault of their own?
- How can a life have meaning, when we’re here for such a brief flicker of time?
I am also a scientist, and don’t easily suffer simple explanations without facts to back them up. (Mencken once described theology as “an effort to explain the unknowable by putting it into terms of the not worth knowing.”)
So I have searched for years for answers to these dilemmas, usually without much satisfaction. But Greyson’s book does much to work toward them. It is exceedingly well researched, based on his own studies over decades and and those of other groups throughout many countries and cultures. He is fastidious in separating cultural expectations from independent accounts, and notes the possibilities of each in each case. And, when he draws conclusions, he is careful to distinguish hypothesis and possibility from probability and proof.
Whether you are a skeptic or devoutly faithful, I highly recommend “After” as a fascinating study in life and death, and man’s relationship with a higher Being.

Historia
Michael Krasny has been telling Jewish jokes since his bar mitzvah, and it's been said that he knows more of them than anyone on the planet. He certainly states his case in this wise, enlightening, and hilarious book that not only collects the best of Jewish humor passed down from generation to generation but explains the cultural expressions and anxieties behind the laughs.

Could’ve been ...

...really laugh-out loud funny. But it’s never funny to ***explain*** why something ‘s funny. So overall you have to settle on getting a little education and a little humor. Overall definitely worth the read though.
