Historia
It was a crime that shocked the nation: the brutal murder in Chicago in 1924 of a child by two wealthy college students who killed solely for the thrill of the experience. Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb were intellectuals - too smart, they believed, for the police to catch them. When they were apprehended, state's attorney Robert Crowe was certain that no defense could save the ruthless killers from the gallows.

Historia
As white supremacy, ultra-nationalism, rabid misogyny, and anti-immigrant fervor coalesce, a new and uniquely American form of fascism looms. Could our current moment actually bring about the end of democracy in the United States? Are Americans willing to surrender their freedom and dignity, along with their ongoing struggle for equality, justice, and mutual respect in the face of the rising tide of political and ideological extremism?

Historia
In The Reactionary Mind, Robin traces conservatism back to its roots in the reaction against the French Revolution. He argues that the right was inspired, and is still united, by its hostility to emancipating the lower orders. Some conservatives endorse the free market; others oppose it. Some criticize the state; others celebrate it. Underlying these differences is the impulse to defend power and privilege against movements demanding freedom and equality - while simultaneously making populist appeals to the masses.

Corey Robin makes a first-class contribution to political literature in this explanation of how and why "conservatives" think the way they do...Too bad the narrator wasn't up for this particular job...Listen to the sample and make your own decision...Thanks!

The Text of Story Is Good. Narration - Not So Much
Revisado: 08-16-18
Lots of facts per the California "Zodiac Killer" case...Good for anyone interested in this ongoing mystery...My "not so much" issue is with the Narration...The Reader drove me to stop listening at times because of his reading what was apparently quoted material...and his speaking the words - Quote...Close Quote - after EVERY Phrase...or single Word...e.g., The detective said, Quote, "NO," Close Quote...etc. etc...and there was a LOT of this... I've never encountered this before in an audio-book...If this were a hard-copy book, quotes would be obvious...but not necessary in this audio format...To me, this was extremely distracting...Take Care!

Revisado: 03-12-18
Along with Robert Ressler, I think Roy Hazelwood was one of the most dispassionate, scholarly students/investigators of sexually oriented crimes and criminals. He made his stories less about himself, and more about the task at hand - investigating these horrible crimes, and identifying the criminals.

This Killer Needs To Be Caught or Identified TODAY
Revisado: 03-12-18
As far as "true crime" books are concerned, I rank this very high, e.g. along side of Robert Graysmith's excellent ZODIAC. However, I think the goal of the author was to also provide some stimulus that might bring forth new information - provoke a previously unknown witness/someone with knowledge of this case to contact the police. [I live 2000 miles from California, and that this case is unresolved disturbs me...]
If you don't know, Ms. McNamara passed away before she could finish this book, but - given her years of diligent research - other editors/writers familiar with her work and style - were able to present a readable, informative book that is also quite entertaining. (After listening to this audio, I bought the hard-copy book.)
No doubt Ms. McNamara was a gifted writer, and "dogged" researcher, and this book will not only honor her memory, but - I hope - help bring about a resolution to this most horrible series of crimes. (Please listen to the sample of this book, provided by audible, so you can judge the quality of the reader - which is Very Good, imo - before you buy it.) Take Care!

Historia
In "The Eternal Return of Fascism", Rob Riemen explores the theoretical weakness of fascism, which depends on a politics of resentment, the incitement of anger and fear, xenophobia, the need for scapegoats, and its hatred of the life of the mind. He draws on history and philosophy as well as the essays and novels of Thomas Mann and Albert Camus to explain the global resurgence of fascism, often disguised by its false promises of ushering in freedom and greatness.

A Timely Message Read Poorly!
Revisado: 01-25-18
Rob Riemen has given the world an important timely message in this warning about the reprise of fascist (and neo-nazi) ideology and agitation in many historically democratic countries, including those in Europe, e.g. Holland, Austria, The UK, as well as the United States (with the "election" of Trump.) One reason for this, he believes, is pure ignorance...of history and cultural development...People don't Read anymore...at least they don't read classical literature or quality history. The PROBLEM with this audio-book is the narration...listen to the audible sample if you want to hear for yourself. I hope audible.com will re-record this, as it is difficult to listen to in its current form. If you can't deal with the current narration, consider buying the "hard-copy" book. Take Care!

Too Much "Backstory!"
Revisado: 07-24-17
If you could sum up Thirty Days to Natural Blood Pressure Control in three words, what would they be?
TOO Much Background!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Thirty Days to Natural Blood Pressure Control?
Say What?
What aspect of David DeRose’s performance would you have changed?
I'll have to think about this and get back w/you...o/w listen to the "sample" and see for yourself...
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I would have settled for either...
Any additional comments?
I believe this is a worthwhile audiobook/ either mode...I just began to listen and found Way Too Much intro, e.g. What BP is and how dangerous hypertension can be...The helpful stuff doesn't start until about chaper 5 or 6...
So, If you're listening to/reading this book, you Already KNOW that! An intro of nothing more that, "You've been told you have high blood pressure, and here's a way to help get it lower..." That's All...The scary sudden death stories, believe me, we've all heard 'em... BTW, print book is a bit pricey...the publisher should see if a lesser priced, e.g. $9.95 or lower could be offered...and,Not everyone has an "e-reader." Take Care!
