Historia
Connie Chung is a pioneer. In 1969 at the age of 23, this once-shy daughter of Chinese parents took her first job at a local TV station in her hometown of Washington, D.C. and soon thereafter began working at CBS news as a correspondent. Profoundly influenced by her family’s cultural traditions, yet growing up completely Americanized in the United States, Chung describes her career as an Asian woman in a white male-centered world.

Growing up in Washington DC in the 1970s, I would often watch the news with Cronkite at the helm. sometimes, I would see this Chinese woman tell me the news...UGH! Not Watergate again! I was ingrained in Watergate, it was ingrained in me! My Dad had a hand in building the damn place. My parents met there and got married on their lunch hour a mere 2 months later! They stayed married for 47 years! I learned to hate the news story but love the buildings. Connie made me reminisce about those days. I understand it better these days! I would often watch the 5 and 6 o'clock news and hear about what was going on outside my door! Washington was so different then! This book is so well written and thought out. Dan Rather owes Connie Chung an apology! Connie cemented the road that Barbara Walters layed out! She [Connie] unwittingly told others that if she can do it, so can you! My mother once met Connie in the street in DC. My mom told her how proud she was to see a strong confident woman on the news! My mom remembered the look on Connie's face, dumbfounded! Connie uttered a stunned thank you and mentioned she needed to go. My mom apologized for keeping from her work and let her go! Mom had wanted to get Connie's autograph to give to me for my birthday. I'm facing 60 and still don't have a Connie Chung autograph! 🤣 Thank you, Ms. Chung.

Historia
No single invention epitomizes the Victorian era more than the black cast-iron range. Aware that the 21st-century has reduced it to a quaint relic, Ruth Goodman was determined to prove that the hot coal stove provided so much more than morning tea: It might even have kick-started the Industrial Revolution. Wielding the wit and passion seen in How to Be a Victorian, Goodman traces the tectonic shift from wood to coal in the mid-16th century - from sooty trials and errors during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the totally smog-clouded reign of Queen Victoria.

Began a bit dry, but good once the points were made. The author really knows her stuff, of course, but the amount of research is phenomenal!

Very nicely done. Beautifully written and easy to follow. The performance was spot on with the SC lingo and accents!

The story was well-written, and I felt as if I was there in the same room watching what are we listening to. The story provided details of Cities life I had been unaware of. Overall, I loved it.
