It’s like getting to hang out with Whoopi Goldberg in my car everyday. I really don’t think I should have to say more but I will- her stories about her family are touching, relatable, occasionally heartbreaking, and often hilarious. You will feel every possible feel. And again: it’s Whoopi freakin Goldberg! Buy it immediately.

While this may be emotionally difficult for some people to read, as someone who has struggled with addiction issues for most of their life, I can confirm this book is an incredibly insightful look into the mind of an addict. Beyond the relatability of her story, I found it to be well written and delivered with a kind of authenticity that makes you feel like you’re chatting with an old friend. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is (or loves someone who is) struggling with addiction, but definitely have tissues at the ready!

I found this book after I discovered (and then binge consumed) the author’s brilliant podcast.
Right now, I am working my way out of my lowest and longest depressive spells to date. As someone who lives with GADD, depression and anxiety have slowly just become my “normal.” I now understand that it doesn’t have to be.
Dr Duff’s insight both in this book and through the Podcast, has been a game changer for me. I am now beginning the process of finding my own therapist (I’m an adult now, but my last therapist was one my parents picked for me and it wasn’t a great experience), which has taken me years to wrap my brain around. I also have new tools and methods in my arsenal to help me through those moments when it feels like nothing could possibly help.
I know I have a long road ahead, but I’m ready to start the journey and I owe a great deal of that readiness to this book.

As some one who carries the familial Alzheimer’s gene, and someone who’s mother is currently battling FTD, this book hits very close to home. The author did a beautiful job depicting what it’s really life living with memory disorders.

Her story in her voice is something I will enjoy listening to again. Made me laugh, and cry, and inevitably look back on their time in DC longingly.

The over all methodology is sound but this book almost seems more geared to single youths or retired empty nesters.

The idea of some of enacting some of the practices in a home with small children is laughable!
