Before the legend of Preacher there was a man, and before the man there was a boy. In this thrilling new novel, William W. Johnstone tells the story of a young man filled with wanderlust and raw courage - who will someday become a hero. On nothing more than a lark, he leaves his family and begins a journey from Ohio westward. Along the way, he runs up against badlands and bad men, loses his freedom, gains his freedom, and learns the first rule of the frontier: Do whatever it takes to survive.

A Great Origin Story for a Legend!
Revisado: 01-07-20
The narrator's voice was so captivating it felt like he was reading a story from memories of the event.
I started my journey to these books by first reading the Frontiersman series about Breckenridge Wallace. It was in book 2 of that series that I met the legend known as Preacher. It was only after reading all four books that I found out that the Mountain Man series was about Preacher. I was so anxious to read them and in order that I did not know if I'd like them as much since the narrator was different. But, to my delightful surprise this narration made this book feel like a different story in the same universe that I appreciated it even more. I cannot wait to read every book in this series!!!
Ps. I say read because the outcome is the same even if listened to. The difference is that I get to hear a variety of different voices for every character versus when I try to read a book!

If I had time to write a good long review I would. Since I don't, the only way to express my love and enjoyment is by saying listen to all of these books! You will thank me later.

Historia
Breck Wallace was turning into a true mountain man on the American frontier. As a teenager in Tennessee, he killed in self-defense, then left behind a woman he loved. With a gun and trap lines, he is learning how to survive in the Rockies, braving the punishing elements, ruthless outlaws, and forging an uneasy peace with the Indians. But as dangerous as life is, nothing is worse than a powerful man with a murderous grudge. Breckenridge has left two such men in his past - and they both send cold-blooded killers for hire after him.

Such an amazing sequel!
Revisado: 12-23-19
Johnstone has truly done it again. This mountain man series is truly one of the most captivating, engaging, and entertaining series I have ever listened to. I truly want him to write more than four books. I cannot wait to get through the next two and love this series even more! Wallace is truly a friend to me and that's the type of relationship I yearn for from a book.
I also want to note that having the same narrator was truly important to the success of the series to me.

The most incredible book I have ever read!
Revisado: 12-17-19
A lot can be said on behalf of the narrator's performance, but it would have to sit side saddle for me to the most important part of this review. This book was everything I was looking for in a frontier novel. The character was so well written I even wanted to befriend him myself. The hardships were plenty, and the victories small but enlightening enough to turn a boy into a man. I won't spoil it for anyone else, but getting lost is this journey is advised immensely by this listener!

The best Audible production I have ever heard!
Revisado: 12-05-19
The sound effects, the soundtrack, the voice acting was so true to the spirit of Star Wars it was sensational! The voice acting was so good that it captivated my imagination. Never have I heard someone get so close to the voices of actors from the films. This is a must read!!!

Historia
Long before the beginning of recorded time, there stood the world of Azeroth. Every kind of magical being strode the countryside among the tribes of man, and all was at peace - until the arrival of the demons and horrors of the Burning Legion and their baneful Lord Sargeras, dark god of chaotic magic. Now Dragons, Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Humans, and Orcs all vie for supremacy across the scattered kingdoms - part of a grand, malevolent scheme that will determine the fate of the world of The Guardians of Tirisfal: a line of champions imbued with godlike powers.

An exquisite take on a pre-origin story
Revisado: 11-17-18
The storyline was nothing shy of pure brilliance. The take on the life of young adult Bruce Wayne prior to becoming Batman was simply an untold story. The voice acting was truly exceptional, and I give this book the highest recommendation I could for any real DC fan.

That night, visions mocked Vol’jin. He found himself in the midst of fighters, each of whom he recognized. He’d gathered them for that final assault on Zalazane, to end his madness and free the Echo Isles for the Darkspears. Each of the combatants took on aspects of a jihui cube, faced to be at their maximum power. Not a fireship among them, but this did not surprise Vol’jin.

This was a tremendously well written story, and the voice actress did an exceptional job. Her male tones were as good as they could be, but her female voices we're impeccable! It is a must listen for fans of the lore.

Exceptional
Revisado: 12-11-17
This was done exceptionally well except for one thing. The names of some iconic lore characters were miss pronounced. It was very hard to hear the actor say names like Sylvanas (sil-von-is) pronounced like (sil-vun-oss) which was slowly spoken as if each syllable was it's own name. Granted, that was the worst in the reading, but it was only used in one chapter. The rest of the books was great and the actor's voice very soothing!
