Historia
Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Matches, Mis-matches and Marriages
Revisado: 10-17-21
Jane Austen’s wickedly witty novels spring into life, read by masterful actors who imbue the dialogue with hilarity. Both characters and narrators have a perfect grasp of comedy. I particularly enjoy Emma Thompson’s narration - her cheerfully ironic tone is flawless; when she reads, I imagine Austen herself behind the voice, merciless in her commentary of human foibles yet somehow forgiving of our human frailties and always appreciative of how funny we all are when blinded by our egos.

Everything Sings its Own Music
Revisado: 02-14-20
Just like the fey Auri, this is a whimsical tale full of gentle discovery and sweet contemplation. It unfolds softly, slowly revealing itself, refusing to be hurried or jostled along.
Ironically, it is not silent at all. Instead, it hums with the rising and falling vibrations which characterize the real world in which we live, if only we would take the time to listen with suitable respect.
The Author’s somewhat anxious apologies are quite unnecessary as this is a carefully crafted piece. Its pace is fluid and controlled as it ebbs and flows, matching the cadences of Auri’s deeply solitary life. The narrative moves irresistibly forward; the reader is drawn onwards by a thread of dramatic tension attached to the vital question: will he come?
I found ‘The Slow Regard of Silent Things’ peculiarly poignant. It left me full of longing, with an aching heart that longs for more.

Historia
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Human behaviour at its funniest.
Revisado: 09-18-18
An entertaining and hilarious dramatization of the work of a much loved author, ‘Northanger Abbey’ is full of wit, silliness and gentle satire. Austen asks her readers to witness and enjoy the absurdity of her characters’ self-absorbed behaviour and so to consider their own conduct in society and, moreover, in private.
Emma Thompson’s light touch and beautiful voice imbue her narration with affectionate humour. Her performance, and the delightful contributions of a masterful cast, had me stopping the story frequently to share snippets with my family and friends so that we could share our laughter.
The highest accolade I can offer is my belief that Ms Austen herself would have loved this rendition of her novel.
