Historia
Eighty-six-year-old Betty Halbreich is a true original. A tough broad who could have stepped straight out of Stephen Sondheim's repertoire, she has spent nearly forty years as the legendary personal shopper at Bergdorf Goodman, where she works with socialites, stars, and ordinary women off the street. She has helped many find their true selves through clothes, frank advice, and her own brand of wisdom. She is trusted by the most discriminating persons - including Hollywood's top stylists - to tell them what looks best.

For Fans of Bibliographies and Movie Reviews. 🤔
Revisado: 08-30-24
I agree with all of the previous reviews stating this “book” is basically a catalog of Roz’s movies. If you’re a fan of movie trivia and facts, it’s for you. If you’re looking for insight into her life and background, keep looking.
The narrator had a pleasant voice. Some odd pronunciations here and there but nothing off putting. ALL Dates are read Day & Month such as 27 October, for October 27th, or 5 May for May 5th. Small quibble, but for me worse than the odd pronunciations. Especially since this is literally a chronological list of her movies.
TBH - I wish I had saved my money and just looked for it at my local library. Ah Well.

Hey you guys, it’s Leslie. I’m excited to share my story with you. Now, I’m gonna be honest: Some of the details might be vague because a b*tch is fifty-five and she’s smoked a ton of weed. But while bits might be a touch hazy, I can promise you the underlying truth is REAL.

Historia
E. E. Cummings' radical experimentation with form, punctuation, spelling, and syntax resulted in his creation of a new, idiosyncratic means of poetic expression. And while there was critical disagreement about his work (Edmund Wilson called it "hideous", while Malcolm Cowley called him "unsurpassed in his field"), at the time of his death in 1962, at age 67, he was, after Robert Frost, the most widely read poet in the United States. Now, in this new biography, Susan Cheever traces the development of the poet and his work.

Interesting Subject, but the Narrator made it difficult to enjoy
Revisado: 12-12-22
I was very interested in learning about e.e. Cummings, so I gave it a listen.
Pros
Subject biographical info (his childhood, various love affairs, marriages, political evolution)
Cons
The narrator’s voice - nice bass tone, but pretty much one inflection- monotone.
Surface details on his more controversial poems and the backlash they received from readers. Would have liked more details on how that impacted his career.
Glad it was included in my membership because I probably would returned it due to the narrator’s voice - Droning and uninteresting.
Having said that, I did learn a little about the various personal relationships he had,

Bobbed Hair and Bathtub Gin or All About Zelda!
Revisado: 07-11-21
I enjoyed the historical elements of the book as well as the wonderful narrator. She was able to subtly change the tempo and tone for each character. I will definitely look for more of her work.
My only issue was that it focused primarily on Zelda Fitzgerald and not much on the other writers. I would have have loved more Dorothy Parker stories and less Zelda. But that’s just me. 😀

Great book. Horrible Narration.
Revisado: 04-27-21
I found the details of Ms. Wood’s life and the content of this story very interesting, but I couldn’t get through it because of the narration. It sounded as if it were a computer generated voice devoid of inflection and locked into a speech pattern and rhythm that made it impossible to follow. Perhaps the author and publisher will re-release it.
