Historia
With the age of voyages of discovery in the 15th century, the curtain of history slowly came down on the late Middle Ages. Portuguese and Spanish seafarers set out to remeasure the dimensions of the earth. Numerous spices and fruits, which we would hardly be able to do without today, found their way to Europe for the first time. Columbus discovered America in 1492 on his quest for India. Six years later, it was left to Vasco da Gama to travel through the sea route to India sought by Columbus on the eastern route around Africa.

Gripping story
Revisado: 03-15-25
I thought that the narrator was good. He had a pleasant voice, put emphasis in the right places, and was emotionally in tune with the material. Yes, there were occasional mispronunciations, but they did not create confusion or interfere with my enjoyment of the book.

This is a thrilling historical account of the worst cholera outbreak in Victorian London and a brilliant exploration of how Dr. John Snow's solution revolutionized the way we think about disease, cities, science, and the modern world.

Historia
Harriet Tubman is one of the giants of American history - a fearless visionary who led scores of her fellow slaves to freedom and battled courageously behind enemy lines during the Civil War. And yet in the century since her death, next to nothing has been written about this extraordinary woman aside from juvenile biographies. The truth about Harriet Tubman has become lost inside a legend woven of racial and gender stereotypes.

Narration
Revisado: 08-31-22
I have a Southern accent, but it’s nothing like this narration. The narrator needs to slow down and be careful not to swallow her words.
Incidentally, re the prior review: Maryland is a Southern state. It’s south of the Mason-Dixon line and it was a slave state.

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Not the topic I wanted
Revisado: 04-06-18
I should have read the reviews more carefully. I wanted a book about the evolution and spread of homo sapiens and interaction with other members of the genus homo. The first four chapters do that, but the rest of the book contains the author’s observations on religion, science, culture, law,-a
