Historia
Mary Robinette Kowal stunned readers with her charming first novel, Shades of Milk and Honey, a loving tribute to the works of Jane Austen in a world where magic is an everyday occurrence. This magic comes in the form of glamour, which allows talented users to form practically any illusion they can imagine. Shades debuted to great acclaim and left readers eagerly awaiting its sequel. Glamour in Glass continues following the lives of beloved main characters Jane and Vincent, with a much deeper vein of drama and intrigue.

growing on me
Revisado: 10-13-23
After the first book I thought maybe this series wasn't my cup of tea. I love Mary Robinette Kowal's lady astronaut series and thoroughly enjoyed the spare man, but historical fiction is not usually my thing. But I gave the second book a go and it's definitely growing on me. I just purchased the third book, and I'll probably finish the series.

Great story, implementation could be better
Revisado: 02-25-11
Let me start with, I enjoyed this book. I found the plot interesting, the characters had a decent level of depth, and I liked the fact that it wasn't all written from the point of view of one "main" character. The world that Jim Butcher built for this story makes me want to keep reading just to learn more about the setting, the other peoples, the way Fury crafting works, and the lives of the Alerans who live outside the valley of Calderon.
This being a review, however, I should air my criticisms as well. First of all, the horns. I found the insertion of horns between seemingly random paragraphs to be jarringly annoying at best. Additionally, the editing on this production could have used some serious work. Occasionally the beginning of one sentence runs so closely on the heels of the previous one that it sounds like the audiobook has skipped. I will also admit that the writing style is far from George R.R. Martin levels. Butcher may need a few more books under his belt before his writing grows to full maturity. As for the narration, Kate Reading is a wonderful narrator... as long as all the characters are female. Her portrayal of male voices makes them all sound a little bit rough and angry. That said, her voice is very clear and once I got used to the tone of the male voices I thoroughly enjoyed her narration.
I do not believe that this book is overly gruesome or graphic. Far worse has been presented in far greater detail in the works of much more famous authors. Yes, there is violence and sexual content. Welcome to the Fantasy genre. I would say this book is actually quite tame, though not a children's story.
All in all, this is a great story and I'll definitely be downloading the next book in the series.
