Not being a sci-fi fan, "Death of the Author" is my first Akorafor book. The author completely pulled me into boht worlds - that of our main character and the world of that character's smash novel. I appreciated the way the author took us through our main charcter's struggle to be seen as more than just a disabled person, to truly get at her fears, desires, dreams. I loved being plunged into her Nigerian-American family and I am now on the hunt for a Nigerian cuisine restaurant as all of the food descriptions made my mouth water. Much like "James', this book highlihts the importance of being able to tell your own story as well as the need to listen and learn from each other's story.

I first became aware of the Eddie Flynn series with the buzz around the release of this book. I am so glad I took the leap into this twisty, legal thriller world of Flynn and his friends. "Witness 8" takes us into the world of the New York elite, where one of the more scandalous neighbors is found murdered in her home. When Eddie takes on the case of the man accused of the murder, you come along for the ride as the tension grows - will the accused man be able to make it to the trial under teh growing pressure of his society peers, a DA who wants to use the case to make a name for himself and a group of hitmen trying to take out Eddie in the process? Cavanaugh kept me guessing to the end. While "Witness 8" isn't my favorite in the series, I don't think it will disappoint any Eddie Flynn fans.

While this book has all the right ingredients for a great mystery - great premise, interesting characters all with something to hide, vengance to be served - none of these elements come together in a successful way to deliver a story that hangs together. Motivations are muddled or flat out not believable. While I don't mind a book with multiple points of view leaading me through a story, the audio narration coming from so many voices was distracting and hurt the pacing of teh book. Just read "And Then There Were None" - you will be far more satisfied.

I loved the way in which the author pulled me in from the first chapter - dead body, accussed murderer with weapon in hand. Yet from that point, you feel unsettled, you know you are looking at a picture that isn't quite right. Agatha Christie herself could not have placed the red herrings as masterfully
