Historia
No subject is bigger than reality itself, and nothing is more challenging to understand, since what counts as reality is undergoing continual revision and has been for centuries. The quest to pin down what's real and what's illusory is both philosophical and scientific, a metaphysical search for ultimate reality that goes back to the ancient Greeks. For the last 400 years, this search has been increasingly guided by scientists, who create theories and test them in order to define and redefine reality.

Would you consider the audio edition of Winter of the World to be better than the print version?
Yes to me the dramatisation is brilliant and adds so much. Also I always listen while commuting and it makes the miles slip away.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hard to pick - his characters are so plausible and varied.
What about John Lee’s performance did you like?
His accents - truly amazing
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Good grief no!

Historia
A huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London.

Beyond Words
Revisado: 06-22-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Beyond Words to be better than the print version?
For me - yes. I listen while driving to and from work!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Elephants and Killer Whales!
What does Carl Safina bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Well - Carl wrote the book! Who better?
Any additional comments?
Having always been interested in animal behavior (as a child I used to keep spiders, chamelions, ant farms etc back in Zimbabwe just to observe their ways) the content of this book is fascinating to me. I like the scientific emphasis.I can't endorse evolution, however, there is too much evidence of "design". I'm a BSc Electrical Engineer who also studied Zoology and Botany at university in the 70's - I know design when I see it. Anyway this book is brilliant - I relish my commute each day to immerse myself in the book. Thanks Carl.

Over the course of 48 richly detailed lectures, Professor Garland covers the breadth and depth of human history from the perspective of the so-called ordinary people, from its earliest beginnings through the Middle Ages.
