Have you ever had that moment when you are in the middle of a conversation and suddenly the room becomes quiet and nobody knows how to move the discussion forward? Of course you do. Haven’t we all? It’s for this reason that I decided to write this book. What better way to break that silence than to throw out some of these facts: Wolves have a serious appetite! They can eat up to twenty pounds of meat in one sitting! The first high heeled shoes were worn by Egyptian butchers to help them walk above the bloodied bodies of animal carcasses.

Fun book that might come in handy someday
Revisado: 12-11-24
this is a great collection of both useful and useless knowledge that's fun to accumulate. Some of the items might pop up in random conversations or bar trivia, but mostly it's just "nice to have info."
While it left me wanting more info on some items, I appreciated the quick hit listing of facts you can easily binge.

Just guys talking about stuff guys don't talk about
Revisado: 11-19-24
This is the first show that I can send to my buddies (mostly Gen X) without any sort of caveat. it doesn't get religious, or super woo, or tell to cold plunge -- it's just two guys who I find extremely relatable talking about stuff that makes me feel way less alone.
Highly recommend it.

best storytelling I've read (and I've read a lotl
Revisado: 10-30-24
This one lives to to the hype. There will be some tips you've heard before but they're told in new ways, and there are at least half a dozen ideas I've never heard before. Genius and powerful ideas for structure and nuance that the author discovered through true exploration of mastery. Great, great read.

Historia
Most people think of themselves as “good", but it’s not always easy to determine what’s “good” or “bad” - especially in a world filled with complicated choices and pitfalls and booby traps and bad advice. Fortunately, many smart philosophers have been pondering this conundrum for millennia, and they have guidance for us. With bright wit and deep insight, How to Be Perfect explains concepts like deontology, utilitarianism, existentialism, ubuntu, and more, so we can sound cool at parties and become better people.

stupid simple and brilliantly effective
Revisado: 06-25-24
I'm a big fan of AppSumo and this book carried forward its tradition of being awesome. No fluff, no over-complication, just straight to the point, unarguable advice.
You might be tempted to say, "it can't really be that easy," but it is. He doesn't say it's foolproof, but it definitely demolishes your start busters

A fantastic tale of creative styles
Revisado: 05-02-24
I truly enjoyed this one. it was very cool to hear how multiple creative styles combined to create one man's vision... even if meant a lot of discomfort and clashes along the way.
I love hearing the stories behind the story and this one went deep. Still holds up years after the movie.

Historia
Kenan Thompson is Saturday Night Live’s longest-ever-serving cast member and a star of such pioneering sketches as “Black Jeopardy” and is hugely beloved thanks to a tidal wave of nostalgic fans who grew up on early 2000s classics All That, Good Burger, and Kenan & Kel on Nickelodeon. He’s also a dad (to two girls) in his mid-40s living in suburbia, and whose universal, relatable, family-friendly humor has created unbelievable appeal and engagement from fans from middle America to coastal elites. Becoming a dad sucked the cool right out of him—and he's OK with that!

Paul Van Doren is the founder of Vans - the shoe company beloved by skateboarders, creatives, and fans everywhere for its laid-back, colorful SoCal vibe, and famous for its people-oriented company culture. How did Van Doren establish a family shoe business that evolved into a globally recognized brand with annual revenue of more than four billion dollars? A blue-collar kid with no higher education and zero retail experience, Van Doren leveraged a knack for numbers, a genius for efficiency, and the know-how to make a great canvas tennis shoe into an all-American success story.

Good story, nice facts, terrible narration
Revisado: 04-26-23
This was a cool story about a guy who made a great business by not asking for permission. There were some great takeaways and I'd say it's worth a listen, but the narrator is pretty awful. Great skater and I respect his contribution to history, but the cadence is his narration dramatically reduced my enjoyment of the book.
