Boring
Revisado: 05-17-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who have absolutely nothing to do otherwise. I had been looking forward to listening to this book with my boys and I was amazed that it hasn't got any exciting or adventurous parts in it. I think the problem is a combination of: (a) The book is poorly written (seriously) and is really just a list of what happens (totally unbelievable) and it inherently lacks real adventure (b) The narrator is fresh from Poshville, UK, and has muted the emotion and excitement.
Either way, I don't recommend this book for adults or kids.
What didn’t you like about Frederick Davidson’s performance?
The huge plum in his mouth. The accent was far too 'poash' to give the much needed oomph to this story.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No

Historia
The Clifton Chronicles is Jeffrey Archer’s most ambitious work in four decades as an international best-selling author. The epic tale of Harry Clifton’s life begins in 1920, with the chilling words, ‘I was told that my father was killed in the war’. But it will be another twenty years before Harry discovers how his father really died, which will only lead him to question: who was his father?

Boring and extremely disappointing
Revisado: 05-17-14
What disappointed you about Only Time Will Tell: Clifton Chronicles, Book 1?
I have read everything Lord Archer has written. I bought this book assuming a good read and was very much disappointed. I would go so far as to say I do not believe this book would have been published if not for the author's fame.It was so boring I started to listen to it on fast play on my ipod (x2). Even then, the story progressed about as quickly as grass grows. I've read a review comparing it to The Forsyte Saga - I loved the Forsyte Saga - this is in no way in the same class. It is a long, long, long story with characters not totally likable, slightly unbelievable situations and no hook to capture your attention and make you want to keep reading. I would have returned this book, but for some reason my audible account says it accepts returns, but doesn't let me return them. All I can say is that if you like watching plants grow for hours on end, then this is the book for you.
Has Only Time Will Tell: Clifton Chronicles, Book 1 turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Read faster
What character would you cut from Only Time Will Tell: Clifton Chronicles, Book 1?
I'd suggest that the telling of the same events several times from different viewpoints is the most frustrating part of this book.

Awesome story - but dont buy for kids under 10!!
Revisado: 11-14-13
Any additional comments?
This is a fantastic story with a great moral and a lot of adventure for boys. BUT, the ending is very sad and one of my 8 year old boys was traumatised. He has been having nightmares and tears and can no longer sleep alone. Unfortunately, the story was so vivid and wonderful that he became so involved and consequently was most upset at the ending. Mine are very well read kids, and not sooks, and I don't think it was worth the trauma. I would definately say wait till your kids are at least 10 (unless they are not remotely imaginative).

Revisado: 06-21-13
Would you try another book from George R. R. Martin and/or Roy Dotrice?
No. Definately not by the author. The reader was fine it was the story I just could not listen to.
Would you ever listen to anything by George R. R. Martin again?
No.
Would you be willing to try another one of Roy Dotrice’s performances?
Yes, the reader was fine
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom. Disappointment. Slight disgust.
Any additional comments?
The worst thing about this book was the boring story. I just found it impossible to focus on it. I soldiered through the first two and a half hours, stopping to replay parts to try to force my brain to connect with this story but there was just nothing that grabbed me.
This book was highly recommended. I don't know why. Perhaps it is a genre thing, but to date I thought I loved all genres.

Bit boring, but overall probably worth the listen
Revisado: 05-21-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Host to be better than the print version?
No. I wish I had used the print version for this then I could have skipped all the boring bits (and there are many). It goes on and on and on in the cave scenes. I think it could have been far shorter and punchier.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The guy who tries to kill the main character. I was rooting for him. She is such a sappy, sickly sweet annoying character. She has stolen the body and mind of someone else, and yet is so freaking self-righteous.
What about Kate Reading’s performance did you like?
It was okay. There were no major annoying parts about the reading.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was just quite boring in parts. But I like Stephanie Meyer, so I don't feel it was a complete waste of money. But I would have bought the book so I could have skipped the many, many, many parts where it went on and on with boring stuff.

Historia
Now as famous on radio and audio as they are in print, the adventures of that irrepressible and ageless schoolboy William Brown have been delighting both young and old for decades. Perpetually scruffy, mud-stained, and mischievous, he is a lovable scamp whose pranks usually end in disaster, for his harassed elders at least. With friends Ginger, Douglas, and Henry (The Outlaws), and the angelic, lisping, thorn-in-his-side Violet Elizabeth Bott, William has rightly joined the literary, and radio, immortals. This volume of Just William features the following stories: William Goes To The Pictures, William The Intruder, William Below Stairs, The Fall Of The Idol, The Show, A Question Of Grammar, William Joins The Band Of Hope, The Outlaws, William And White Satin, William’s New Year’s Day, The Best Laid Plans, Jumble.

Wonderful story, beautifully read.
Revisado: 05-21-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. The whole family listened to Just William stories on a very lengthy car trip (15 hours drive). The time passed quickly, with my 7 year old boys, my mother-in-law, myself and my husband entranced by the stories. We roared with laughter at Williams antics and at times the car literally shook with laughter.
The stories are so simple and yet extremely clever and the reading is wonderful. My husband still repeats some of the phrases sometimes: "I'm just bein' plite" says my husband in his best William voice when he does something especially annoying...
What was one of the most memorable moments of Just William?
Every story was just so wonderful it's hard to pick a favourite moment. I'd say my best memory was looking around at the faces of my family, the seven year old boys and their grandmother sitting togethor, eyes bright with joy, at one, roaring with laughter.
Which scene was your favorite?
All!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh, and laugh and laugh some more. At one point, we were rolling around the floor (in the Shakespeare story) weak with laughter. The boys didn't get all of it, but they did get the 'ham and eggs and bacon' jokes.
Any additional comments?
You will love, love, love these stories. I have already told my mother off for not giving them to me as a child. But I can still enjoy them now!!

Number-one best-seller John Grisham returns with his most suspenseful thriller yet. Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of the USA only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett just became number five. I did not know Judge Fawcett, but I know who killed him, and why. I am a lawyer, and I am in prison. It's a long story.
