Such a silly, childishly written story.
Revisado: 04-10-25
I am genuinely shocked that this stupid story got so many wildly positive reviews. The writing is so juvenile, I might've guessed it as a sixth graders entry into a story writing contest. So many overt areas of implausibility, goofy, one dimensional characters, and genuinely bad medical data. I kept hoping it would get better, but it didn't, and then it ended on the most ridiculous circular storyline. I mean… Maybe if you like reading poorly written adventure stories, go ahead… It's not that long. but if you were accustomed to well written books by skilled authors, give this one a pass. It's just that lame.

A pretty unlikable main character…
Revisado: 03-10-25
I'm surprised that this is so popular. The main character is both stupid, has terrible judgment, awful at her job if she was ever an actual FBI agent, and super impetuous. It's hard to root for her when she's such a general liability. The performance is good, the premise is interesting… But the main character makes it very mediocre at best.

Historia
Gabriel Delling might call himself a professional con artist, but when walking superstitions start trying to bite his face off, his charm is shockingly unhelpful. It turns out living nightmares almost never appreciate a good joke. Together with a succubus who insists on constantly saving his life, Gabe desperately tries to survive a new reality that suddenly features demons, legends, and a giant locust named Dale - all of whom pretty much hate his guts. And when an ancient horror comes hunting for a spirit locked in his head, Gabe finds himself faced with the excruciating choice between death...or becoming some kind of freaking hero.

What a seriously delightful story…
Revisado: 01-10-25
With social media, there's often a bunch of taglines, story snippets, etc, trying to drag you into somebody's sincere effort to break into being a successful author. This particular author, and this particular story is 150% worth the effort. What an awesome surprise! I love a good urban fantasy, I love the snippets of humor, I love the exposition of choice around good versus evil… Super enjoyed it. And, wonder of wonders! The author is an excellent narrator! That is rather rare, as I'm sure you know. He does a great job, the story is engaging and intriguing, and I am all in. Good job sir.

Revisado: 09-26-24
This is so bad… I thought it was going to be a thought-provoking book on the rationale behind disengaging from an overly phone-connected world. Instead it's a freaking product specification comparison log from an overly nerdy person deciding which dumb phone to buy. Super disappointing.

Historia
A window is but a piece of glass through which we view the world outside. It is not meant to distort. It is not intended to do anything but show us things as they are. At Oxford, though, there is a very particular window that reveals a very particular view. It is a view that defies all laws of nature and science. And when a detective is called in to investigate, he is startled to find that view opens a window into his own life–and a mystery he has never been able to solve.

It was an interesting story, fun to imagine the ideas being put forth. Temporal travel is always a fun subject, and a little twist at the end was like an extra little bonus. Definitely worth the 50 minutes!

This series is so good…
Revisado: 03-18-24
JR is such an incredible writer, the world of Cormoran Strike is just as compelling as the world of Harry Potter, albeit in extremely different ways. They're very tense, real whodunnits that keep you guessing to the very end. I'm really glad she keeps adding to the series. And this is one of the best books of the lot… ambitiously taking on a hard subject, that of a giant successful cult which has proven hard to take down. Highly, highly recommended.

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

GREAT Dresden vignette!!
Revisado: 03-05-24
Such a great, classic, on point Dresden novella!! And, man!! Jim Butcher can narrate!! So good!! I'm a die hard Marsters fan, but Jim did not disappoint at all. The only time I really noticed a significant difference, is because Jim's Bob character sounds more like a race track bookie, as compared to Marsters horny British gentleman, lol. Just great. So glad to have this listen!!

Awful male Narration
Revisado: 10-12-23
I couldn't get past the first few chapters, because the male narration is so, so bad. As mentioned by nearly every other reviewer, I couldn't even get close to finishing a quarter of the book, let alone all of it. The female narrator is great, and it might be a really good story, but I'm never gonna know. Man, I hope this author chooses a different narrator for her future works.

Lovely, pleasant story, except for one thing…
Revisado: 10-10-23
This was a solidly enjoyable book, with impeccably era appropriate dialogue, and an intriguing "who done it" story. My only complaint is that the narrator, who I am guessing is native British, does a nails-on-chalkboard rendition of an American accent from the late 1800s. Her American accent is like a super mundane 21st-century generic American accent… No inflection and overt, over the top "American" I pronunciation. It's hard to listen to… Especially after her excellent and proper pronunciation of all the rest of the characters. Yes, the character is American… But I am quite certain that a 1880s American lady who immigrated from New York back to England, would not sound like our protagonist. I couldn't get it out of my craw. But the book itself, and the storyline were quite enjoyable, and I will listen to the next volume. But just be aware of what you're getting into.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

This was a lovely read...
Revisado: 10-08-23
Everything about this book was delightful... from the excellent narration, to the super enjoyable storyline, to the emotionally intelligent approach to the situations presented in the tale. The characters were fleshed out enough to be engaging and get you to root for them, and, while the story just a *little* contrived, it's not enough to take away from the overall loveliness of this book. Highly recommended.
