Steve Bremner's book, Increase Your Faith is a well written, plain-spoken, primer on faith. He begins with the disciple's request of Jesus, "Lord, increase our faith." From there he goes on to look in detail, from a Biblical perspective, at how faith can grow.

Using Bible stories, personal anecdotes and the testimony of others, Steve clearly shows how faith can grow. From the scriptures, he makes the imperative for growing our faith clear. And using clear, real-life examples he helps us see the importance of growing our faith.

I highly recommend this book. Steve speaks in a way that makes the Bible understandable for one who is young in the faith. At the same time, he brings encouragement for those who have been in the faith for years.

What did you love best about Nine Lies People Believe About Speaking in Tongues?

Steve's opening section of autobiography engaged me thoroughly as he described his own misunderstandings about tongues due to his conservative upbringing.

What other book might you compare Nine Lies People Believe About Speaking in Tongues to and why?

I've read other books about the topic of tongues, but most are strictly doctrinal argument. Steve bring much of his own personal experience into this book.

Which character – as performed by Steve Bremner – was your favorite?

Since he performs the book himself, he takes some liberties with the audio format. Steve pioneered podcasting long before it was popular and so has a natural ease bringing his own work to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Steve's anecdotes make this look at the theology behind the gift of tongues compelling.

Any additional comments?

Nine Lies People Believe About Speaking In Tounges surprised me. I’ve read other work by the author Steve Bremner, so I expected a good read with lots of biblical truth and interesting anecdotes. But Nine Lies starts with a mini autobiographical section that so matched my own experience it shocked me.

Steve opens the book with the story of growing up in the most anti-charismatic circles imaginable, and his own journey from the fundamentalism of the Plymouth Brethren meetings to a revival school spawned by the Brownsville–Pensicola outpouring.

He walks through each of nine common misconceptions about speaking in tongues and builds a clear explanation of the joys and benefits of living in the Spirit. Through detail use of scripture, he debunks the lies and extols the benefits of speaking in tongues as a part of a daily spiritual walk with the Lord.

The book includes an appendix with step by step instructions on how to either lead someone else or enter into the baptism in the Spirit on your own.

Nine lies is engaging and practical and I recommend to anyone with questions about speaking in tongues.
