Historia
Freddy Stern, a twenty-one-year-old cashier, has lived a plain, albeit harsh life. Having been orphaned—twice—he's spent the last ten years working and staying out of trouble. His only aspiration is to save enough money to become an archhuman. His dream gets the jump on him when he barely survives a near-death encounter and finds himself in possession of 1% Lifesteal, a bizarre talent with numerous contradictions and just as many uses.

Great story, Great narration
Revisado: 05-01-25
I just finished listening to this and I can't wait for the next one to come out - like I'm going to be searching for the author's patreon level of can't wait. I was skeptical of the reviews that compared it to Primal Hunter or Defiance of the Fall. It is absolutely of the same quality. The story is pretty different, taking place a couple hundred years after a magical apocalypse in a relatively stabilized society that bears a resemblance to modernity, but where the power brokers have even less reason to concern themselves with the actions or dissatisfaction of the masses due to personal strength.
TLDR- get it, it's worth the credit.

Every day is the same for Joseph: Study, go to class, repeat. Life is dull, and there's no prospect of that changing. Is some excitement too much to ask for? "Get to safety if you wish to survive!" Joseph's prayers are answered, but not in a way he could ever have expected. Goblins, ghouls, kobolds, and a myriad of monsters and mythical creatures have spawned all over the college campus and beyond. The carnage is shocking. If he's going to survive the RPG apocalypse, Joseph is going to have to figure out the new rules fast.

great writing, sadistic author
Revisado: 09-23-24
This is a warning that if the author was a DM, they would do a deus ex machina to ensure a TPK with no hook. If that's your thing, read this series, the writing is great. If you like character development having a payoff, don't.

Historia
Separated as a child from his family, Theo has always had a feeling that he’s made for something bigger than the suburban life he seems to be headed for. When a bully threatens his best friend, he can’t help but step in the way. The problem is that Theo’s just not much of a fighter. Bruised and broken, Theo wakes up to a massive headache and what appears to be floating game text inviting him to become a dragon. While ludicrous, no matter how often he rejects the prompt, it simply returns. Knowing that his life can’t get any worse, he finally accepts...

Great concept, good execution, will buy the next
Revisado: 03-16-24
The book was an interesting blend of a bunch of others from the genre, combining lost prince/ dragon within /sucked into a magic world tropes. It does a great job in execution for what it is. The tone lies somewhere between bookstore YA and satisfying airport kiosk stand. Not too angsty, not erotica, not gore porn. It's comfortably in the middle. It's definitely a bit crunchy, but stat recitals are at the end of chapters and easily and conveniently skipped (assuming your hands aren't full). The narrator is on point and the story is worth the credit, whether it's a monthly or a refill.

Revisado: 01-21-24
I've listened to everything up to the 8th book, and some a few times. The books are excellently written with great examinations of various aspects of human (or sophant) nature. The series has not gotten repetitive or dull at all and has just gotten better.

When Finlay Ashowan joins the staff of the King and Queen of Daxaria, he’s an enigma. No one knows where he comes from or how he came to be where he is, which suits Fin just fine. He’s satisfied simply serving as the royal cook, keeping nosy passersby out of his kitchen, and concocting some truly uncanny meals. But Fin’s secret identity doesn’t stay hidden for long. After all, it’s not every day a house witch and his kitten familiar, Kraken, take to meddling in imperial affairs.

An amazing story
Revisado: 07-30-23
After reading all three books in the trilogy, it was quite difficult for me to decide on the title for my review, I debated saying a light-hearted story, a predictably unpredictable story, an epic story, or even the story you are looking for. But, none of that is truly accurate, aside from likely the last one. The story is in turns light-hearted and deeply delves into some of life's greatest tragedies. While some aspects of the story are fully predictable much of it and how it gets there are quite unpredictable. the characters and story are well rounded and while some characters are tropes, others are fresh takes. This truly is a story written for people who enjoy good narratives more than simply being another story that's barely worth your credit. for those of you complaining about unnecessary details, they come into the fore in the second and third book, in fact I can't think of any detail that is not there either for a narrative purpose or an emotional impact at some point in the story. If you like any of the related genres, you are likely to like this book. it was an amazing listen, well narrated and packed emotional punches of multiple types. Delicate issues were handled with obvious emotional insight that put you in the characters places, and lighthearted moments equally draw you in. So, if you are still reading this review, just buy the books, the series is worth it.

Now that I know what Dracula has planned for me, the pressure is on. Failure is hardly an option.... At the same time, if I'm supposed to one day preside over the Wallachian Vampires, how am I supposed to prove myself to those that are centuries older than me? I have to get stronger, be smarter. I have to succeed. Meanwhile, my rivals in House Wolf seem likely to call off the truce at any moment. Actually, that's the least of my worries. It turns out that there are legendary beings from other worlds trying to steal the Netherveil away from Dracula—and it's going to be my job to help defend it.

worth the credit
Revisado: 03-27-23
I feel like I first need to address the fact that I paid a credit for this audiobook and I'm leaving a review of my own free will, because apparently I haven't figured out how to get my audiobooks for free yet.
the story was an excellent continuation of the previous book. so if you liked the previous book, you will like this one as well. if you didn't like the previous book, you probably won't like this one either, but I do have to say that my minor niggles on the previous book of mostly been ironed out in this one. and if you haven't read the previous book why are you reading reviews for the second book in a series, go read reviews for the first book.
For those that are about the first book and are unsure of whether they want to continue the series, the book further developed all of the characters and took a couple of the characters that were a little flat in the previous book and flush them out and made them more whole people. the main character still has a lot of the same flaws that he had in the first book with regards to being better with theory than reality both with magic and with interpersonal relationships. because of the discussions in the book this is clearly an intended character flaw that we see him actively attempting to rectify and come to grips with, however, like the first book, the action takes place over a short period of time in which it would be unreasonable to expect much actual growth in a given character, the first book taking place in the span of about a month and the second book taking maybe a month and a half. my most present major complaint with the story is one that the main character actually has as well which is the unrealism of expectations placed upon the main character with regards to time line. this is a central topic that is addressed in the book as being unreasonable, however I'm not the hugest fan of that level of unreasonability in things like that, but that is a personal preference not necessarily a flaw in the story.
the narration, is excellent and completely on point I need not be addressed in the review of the sequel as it is simply a continuation of the excellent narration in the first book. in my opinion this book is clearly worth the credit and it is one that I very happily spent. I look forward to listening to the next book and then completely on board with the main characters plan for the future.

Now I've been taken to a demiplane between worlds where Dracula rules supreme, and all he wants is to... start a school for vampires? It turns out the next generation of vampire is built differently, and I'm in on the ground floor of that new enterprise. What's more, I have a unique suite of abilities that helps me further stand out from the crowd. So much, in fact, that I've started attracting the attention of multiple gorgeous women.

a fun book certainly worth the credit
Revisado: 03-26-23
The story features a main character that is not overpowered or particularly suave. He is socially awkward, intellectually intelligent, and clearly trying to become overpower and suave. He is a character with massive potential power but, does not have the time to manifest it in the first book. the plot line tends to go somewhat the way you think with some nice surprises thrown in. there is sufficient world building and unexplained mysteries to make it interesting, but also keep the story moving. all in all it's a fun story that's on the lighter side and I heavily recommend listen.
