Historia
A slender novel of epic power and the winner of the Booker Prize 2024, Orbital deftly snapshots one day in the lives of six women and men traveling through space. Selected for one of the last space station missions of its kind before the program is dismantled, these astronauts and cosmonauts—from America, Russia, Italy, Britain, and Japan—have left their lives behind to travel at a speed of over seventeen thousand miles an hour as the earth reels below.

5h of poetry
Revisado: 12-06-24
There was no climax to the story. It was a viewpoint of what it is like in space as an astronaut. I felt like I was listening to 5+hours of poetry which is not my favorite. First time ever that I’ve increased the speed to 2x just so I could get through the book. Unless you love poetry…don’t get this book.

Nothing could be more out of character, but after fifty-nine years of marriage, as her husband Bernard’s health declines, and her friends' lives become focused on their grandchildren—which Jenny never had—Jenny decides she wants a little something for herself. So she secretly applies to be a contestant on the prime-time TV show Britain Bakes. Whisked into an unfamiliar world of cameras and timed challenges, Jenny delights in a new-found independence. But that independence, and the stress of the competition, starts to unearth memories buried decades ago.

Historia
Birdie Greenwing has been at a loose end ever since her beloved twin sister and husband passed away. Too proud and stubborn to admit she is lonely, Birdie's world has shrunk. But then some new neighbours move in to the house next door. Jane has come to Brighton for a fresh start, away from her ferociously protective mother Min. While Jane finds it hard to stand up for herself, her daughter Frankie has no problem telling people what she does and doesn't want. Ada Kowalski has come to England to follow her dreams, but her new life is harder than she expected.

Good story but hard to get into
Revisado: 10-28-24
It took me about halfway through the book to get into the story. I wish Birdie had connected to other characters sooner in the story.
The last third of the book was wonderful. Loved the insight and how each character had their place.
