Excellent Memoir
Revisado: 05-14-23
Finally a book that addresses binge eating! I found this audiobook to be easy to listen to and very thought provoking. Author's narration is good and gives book an honest feel. I saw glimpses of my own coping mechanisms while listening to this memoir. The coping mechanisms that have to do with failed human relationships. Empty is well worth the read. Thank you Susan for pouring your soul into a valuable book that helps a person understand herself/himself with regards to human relationships, body image, and eating disorders. Worth reading again.

Historia
In this valuable and revealing anthology, cultural critic and best-selling author Roxane Gay collects original and previously published pieces that address what it means to live in a world where women have to measure the harassment, violence, and aggression they face, and where they are "routinely second-guessed, blown off, discredited, denigrated, besmirched, belittled, patronized, mocked, shamed, gaslit, insulted, bullied" for speaking out. Contributions include essays from established and up-and-coming writers, performers, and critics.

Important Essays about sexual violence

Roxanne Gay drew me to this very thought provoking and timely book of essays. We have a huge problem and it is called rape culture. These essays should be required reading for freshmen in college. I really liked the book. I cannot stop thinking about it.

Too much content
Revisado: 05-10-23
The book was fine but not what i had hoped for based on title. Book was kind of creepy. Author kept referring to person that is desired as VICTIM. UGH. Not my cup of tea but I did listen to the whole book. You might like it.

Good, short novel
Revisado: 05-03-23
This is an important book for young people or anyone contemplating drug use. Drug use has life altering consequences. Once upon a time I saw myself in this book ... different drugs, different outcomes, and poor choices. I am grateful I lived through it. Good book. Narrator is fine. Timely novel for teens/young adults. Recommend

Revisado: 05-03-23
This memoir provides a meaningful understanding of the history of Daphne Sheldrick's family origins. She was the matriarch of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. Narrator was perfect. If you love animals deeply this is a wonderful memoir about simply love, life, and elephants. Highly recommend. Glad I chose it.

It wasn’t so long ago when a lot of people thought the Florida panther was extinct. They were very nearly right. That the panther still exists at all is a miracle - the result of a desperate experiment that led to the most remarkable comeback in the history of the Endangered Species Act. And no one has told the whole story - until now.

Historia
Intelligent, majestic, and loyal, with lifespans matching our own, elephants are among the greatest of the wonders gracing the African wilds. Yet in the 1970s and 1980s, about 1,000 of these captivating creatures were slaughtered in Zambia each year, killed for their valuable ivory tusks. When biologists Mark and Delia Owens, residing in Africa to study lions, found themselves in the middle of a poaching fray, they took the only side they morally could: that of the elephants.

A memoir about Africa from two conservationists was great. The poaching in the 1980s was horrific. it made me heart sick. Great book for Earth Day!

Historia
When Lawrence Anthony learned that the northern white rhino, living in the war-ravaged Congo, was on the very brink of extinction, he knew he had to act. If the world lost the sub-species, it would be the largest land mammal since the woolly mammoth to go extinct. In The Last Rhinos, Anthony recounts his attempts to save these remarkable animals. The demand for rhino horns in the Far East has turned poaching into a dangerous black market that threatens the lives of not just these rare beasts, but also the rangers who protect them.

Well, reading about the plight of rhinos was heartbreaking but crucial for insight. I love Lawrence Anthony's books. His conservation efforts are so undeniably critical and necessary. He died way too soon.

Historia
A chic Parisienne, Françoise never expected to find herself living on a South African game reserve. But then, she fell in love with conservationist Lawrence Anthony, and everything changed. After Lawrence’s death, Françoise faced the daunting responsibility of running Thula Thula without him. Poachers attacked their rhinos, their security team wouldn’t take orders from a woman, and the authorities were threatening to cull their beloved elephant family. On top of that, the herd’s feisty new matriarch, Frankie, didn’t like her.

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.
