Historia
London's social season is in full swing, and Victorian aristocracy can't stop whispering about a certain gentleman who claims to be the direct descendant of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. But he's not the only topic of wagging tongues. Drawing rooms, boudoirs, and ballrooms are abuzz with the latest news of an audacious cat burglar who has been systematically stealing valuable items that once belonged to the ill-fated queen. Light gossip turns serious when the owner of one of the pilfered treasures is found murdered, and the mysterious thief develops a twisted obsession with Lady Emily Ashton.

Decent Story, Excellent Narration
Revisado: 02-20-24
Justine Eyre provides incredible voice, as always to an intriguing mystery. Though this is not my favorite book in the genre, it was enjoyable and markedly better than the first book in the series.

Historia
London, 1887. When newly graduated medical doctor Charlotte Duvall receives word that her father has died, she immediately leaves America and returns home to see to her family’s estate. Among her father’s possessions is a box of her late mother’s letters, which feels like a balm to Charlotte’s grief-stricken heart. But the letters contain some inconsistencies that suggest there was more to her mother’s death than Charlotte had been told.

Plot is great, narration is mediocre
Revisado: 02-06-24
I really preferred Justine Eyre’s narration from the last several Nancy Campbell Allen books I’ve read. NCA always comes through with excellent plots and beautifully realized characters, but the narration on this book was mediocre at best and grating at worst. The narrator’s male voices especially were not up to par.

Historia
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

Surprise Christianity
Revisado: 01-24-24
The story was okay, but there was nothing about the book or its summary that would leave me to believe it was Christian Fiction. It got more and more religious as the book went on and became annoying. The book definitely suffered for it and would have been better if the author had left out the constant praying. It wasn’t at all relevant to the plot.

Historia
Anyone who saw an episode of Saturday Night Live between 1999 and 2006 knows Rachel Dratch. She was hilarious! So what happened to her? After a misbegotten part as Jenna on the pilot of 30 Rock, Dratch was only getting offered roles as "Lesbians. Secretaries. Sometimes secretaries who are lesbians." Her career at a low point, Dratch suddenly had time for yoga, dog- sitting, learning Spanish - and dating. After all, what did a forty-something single woman living in New York have to lose?

Wonderful!
Revisado: 12-21-12
Would you listen to Girl Walks into a Bar... again? Why?
Yes. It was funny and poignant. Dratch was insightful, open, and generally made me feel like I was a friend listening to anecdotes about her life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both!
