Historia
Bruno, chief of police in the French town of St. Denis, is already busy with a case when the body of an undercover French Muslim cop is found in the woods, a man who had called Bruno for help only hours earlier. But Bruno's sometime boss and rival, the Brigadier, doesn't see this investigation as a priority - there are bigger issues at stake. Bruno has other ideas.

Excellent history but Isabella clone tiresome
Revisado: 04-05-23
I’m a big fan of the Bruno stories, but was kind of disappointed in this one. I appreciate the balanced exploration of tensions in modern French society and in history, as in previous novels, and learned a lot in listening to it. The subplots about sexual assault, autism, terrorism, Islam, and the rescue of Jewish children in WWII were presented in a balanced and engaging manner. But the plot and characters seemed somewhat stale for the first time in this series, especially Bruno’s romantic life - no character evolution for him this time. I like the narration, except for Pamela - I just don’t buy her being a Scot, with her posh, languid English accent, despite her auburn hair.

I really enjoyed this short story. I just wish Pamela had a Scottish accent instead of a posh English accent - I don’t buy her as a Scot at all.

When an unannounced stranger comes calling at Morton Farrier’s front door, he finds himself faced with the most intriguing and confounding case of his career to-date as a forensic genealogist. He agrees to accept the contract to identify a man who had been secretly living under the name of his new client’s long-deceased brother.

I really enjoy these stories
Revisado: 01-21-23
As an amateur genealogist, I love the way that Morton's genealogical investigations are woven into the adventures of the characters he is in Investigating. I also like the Morton's character and his relationships have evolved through the series - his interactions with Grace are hilarious - so true to life with a little one! I'm also glad that Morton getting beaten up and knocked unconscious is no longer a standard plot feature. Some issues with Morton's personal family history are left hanging in this book - I wonder what will be revealed in the next one!

Short but just the right length, but too expensive
Revisado: 12-30-22
I love the way the historical facts are woven into the story. You really learn a lot about what people 's lives were like, especially those of women and the underprivileged, without being pedantic. Ian Pringle does a great job as narrator, perfect for this series. I also like the way Morton Farrier's character and relationships have evolved through this series. My only mark down (4 stars overall) is because Audible charges a whole credit for a 3 hour audiobook. It's not that I want the story to be longer, it's that I think Audible should only charge half a credit for short stories and novellas

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

Historia
It was to be the most important case of Morton Farrier’s career in forensic genealogy so far. A case that had eluded him for many years: Finding his own father. Harley "Jack" Jacklin disappeared just six days after a fatal fire at his Cape Cod home on Christmas Eve in 1976, leaving no trace behind. Now his son, Morton must travel to the East Coast of America to unravel the family’s dark secrets in order to discover what happened to him. This is the sixth book in the Morton Farrier genealogical crime mystery series, although it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story.

Will Morton find his father in America??
Revisado: 12-14-22
If you're a Morton Farrier fan, don't miss this episode, which is completely devoted to his search for his own family. I felt sorry for the narrator, though - a Brit tackling American accents. He made a valiant effort, but the Boston and various Yankee accents are notoriously hard to get right. I couldn't resist a chuckle, having lived in Western Massachusetts for many years - everything east of the Connecticut River was a foreign land. I guess this is how Americans sound to English people when we try to speak with a British accent - muddling together a variety of dialects!

Not getting much for your money
Revisado: 04-05-22
I enjoy these Bunburry mysteries, but this was more like a short story than a full-fledged book. I don't think it's right for Audible to charge a whole credit for a 3-hour reading. The characters and story lines were suddenly truncated, and a brief explanation given in an epilogue. I feel cheated. Audible should combine these stories to make a full-fledged audiobook, like they did with the first few stories. I feel cheated.
