A great book about the Great Perhaps
Revisado: 02-14-23
Much is made about the incredibly tame “sex scenes” of this book. The thing is, sex is not what’s being sold here. It’s about teen angst over love and yresponsibility. About the power of friendships and the merits of loyalty and duty and scholarship.
It even warns us all about the power of strong drink.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
As one of the strategists behind the famous 2012 RNC “autopsy,” Miller conducts his own forensic study on the pungent carcass of the party he used to love, cutting into all the hubris, ambition, idiocy, desperation, and self-deception for everyone to see. In a bracingly honest reflection on both his own past work for the Republican Party and the contortions of his former peers in the GOP establishment, Miller draws a straight line between the actions of the 2000s GOP to the Republican political class's Trumpian takeover, including the horrors of January 6th.

A great story well-performed by an uneducated narrator
Revisado: 07-19-22
Morrison’s tone and delivery is good, but he mispronounces common words like “coup de grace” and “exegesis.”
Miller’s story is insightful and scathing. This guy is bright, connected, and pretty objective, except where he admits that he is not.
Buried in this excoriation of soulless Koolaid-drinking is an examination of why it happened. And as the title suggests, Miller doesn’t excuse himself.

The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

Revisado: 09-26-21
The plot is tight. If you liked the interaction of the characters, you find yourself falling in love with them, here. Jefferson Mays does a beautiful job of selling Avasala, and Amos, and Miller, and Hell, everyone.
These guys writing as Corey have their science well-wrapped into their fiction. It’s great.

For generations, the solar system—Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt—was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artifact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has appeared in Uranus's orbit, where it has built a massive gate that leads to a starless dark. Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artifact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core.

It’s a great story, well-told. I missed the superb narration with voices by Jefferson Mays, who narrated _ Caliban's War_.
Okay, this was still narrated by Mays, but he was on point for the second novel.

Stephen Fry is a genius of expressive speech
Revisado: 10-16-20
Conan Doyle’s stories stand tall in this collection. And Fry, a talented actor who understands each character intimately, portrays their tones and voices PERFECTLY.
Bravo. I feel the need to seek Fry out, and tell him what a genuine pleasure he has brought to me.
The stories of Sherlock Holmes aren’t some stuck-up tales by a stiff-necked, highfalutin old Brit; they are vivid, approachable, and alive, a century and a half after they were first penned.
Pure pleasure. Thank you.
