Historia
In this definitive history of the modern Arab world, award-winning historian Eugene Rogan draws extensively on Arab sources and texts to place the Arab experience in its crucial historical context for the first time. Tracing five centuries of Arab history, Rogan reveals that there was an age when the Arabs set the rules for the rest of the world. Today, however, the Arab world's sense of subjection to external powers carries vast consequences for both the region and Westerners who attempt to control it.

A must read
Revisado: 11-20-16
For anyone who wishes to get insight into the most common trouble spots in the modern world this is an invaluable resource. The account is well written and audio rendition is excellent. A story like historical narrative in a reasonable detail provides good overview of the regional history. Professor Rogan has a special gift in narrating history. This book is yet another example of his remarkable accomplishments in this field.

Historia
More than eight centuries after his death, Saladin's life and reign represent the pinnacle of the Arab world's glory. Saladin is widely considered one of the greatest generals in history and one of the most famous leaders of the Middle Ages, but he remains a paradox, both in personal and in historical terms. A military genius, he first served other generals and was overshadowed later in life by his greatest rival, Richard I of England. He was far more admired by his Christian enemies, who extolled his chivalry, than some of his Muslim rivals.

The narrator needs to go back to school
Revisado: 11-06-16
What would have made Legends of the Middle Ages: The Life and Legacy of Saladin better?
Regardless of the text, the narrator barely achieves high school level reading. An auditory challenge, not an intellectual one.
Would you recommend Legends of the Middle Ages: The Life and Legacy of Saladin to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably in the written format
How could the performance have been better?
If performance means reading, it probably will get passing grade at high school level, but that is about it. I guess find a reader who is proficient in reading English Language.

Buy the original book and read
Revisado: 04-06-08
The text is very interesting. A scholarly work! It lacks, however, some authentic references, where it exposes the writer's lack of familiarity with Islam; and at times with the its principles. However, it is almost irritating to hear absolute slaughter of pronunciation Arabic and Persian words and names over and over again. It is exhausting to feel the labor of the reader. I wish the reader had sought some advice about the pronunciation, especially when embarking on an undertaking like this book. Spare yourself the trouble, buy the book and read it. It is much more enjoyable, then listening to it.

Reza imposed a tyranny that ultimately sparked the Islamic Revolution of 1979 which, in turn, inspired fundamentalists throughout the Muslim world, including the Taliban and terrorists who thrived under its protection.

An eye opener
Revisado: 10-31-06
Having seen the influence of Colonial British in Pakistan (then India), this book brought sickening naustalgia. It is very ineresting to see how we as humans with power, make things that are none of our business, our business. And then when things go wrong, we blame everyone else but ourselves. A must read for everyone interested in longterm ramifications of un welcome intrusions into sovereignty of other countries.
