Narrator was GREAT!

I listened to this to help my 7th grader with his English class and ended up really enjoying it. The Narrator did an outstanding job of bringing the characters to life.

Pretty Dark Stuff

Short stories with the Sandman as a connecting character - some of these are really dark and difficult to listen to, I ended up skipping through many of them. Not the Neil Gaiman I enjoy the most.

Poor choice in narrator

The narrator has a very robotic voice which is difficult as robots are actually in the book. It was impossible to figure out who was talking and the tin quality of the voice makes getting into the book really hard. I am sure I would have enjoyed the story more with a different narrator. As it is, I listened only so I could understand the rest of the series, not out of pleasure.

This book may be helpful to others, but I was looking for actual suggestions rather than generalized life style changes. Ie. going to bed on time, drinking more water - these are kind of basic.

Narcissists are not the devil

I didn’t care for this book mostly because of the message clearly says that the narcissist is a conscience perpetrator - which I don’t think it true. I think there are many people out there that are like this and many that are attracted to them in relationships - however I don’t believe that covert or obvious narcissist are aware or that they are intentionally causing pain for others. Demonizing one part of the couple so that the other part can forgive through victimhood is not healthy. Learning that both are human, both with bad traits that are now known and thus can be avoided in the future is a better message.

The reader is excellent though.

My Kids Liked It

Listen to this before the movie - it was better than movie (as always) - though the relationship between the adults was as weird and awkward as in the movie. Plot was better than movie and my kids enjoyed it and remembered key elements

I didn’t really find myself interested in the characters like I normally do Card books. Debeet was a jerk from the start, never really changed or endeared himself to the reader.
