Historia
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late. But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am. They don’t know what I’m capable of....

Cringy
Revisado: 10-28-24
Cringy, cliche, predictable. Makes fun of and makes light of mental illness, implies people have no will power or self control, and can see the ‘twist’ coming from 10 miles away.

A bit tough as an audio
Revisado: 08-07-15
It was sometimes difficult to determine what was internal thought rants and what the narrating character was saying to other characters. That said, a twisted main character made for an interesting perspective on a more common storyline.

Wonder how many lies...
Revisado: 08-05-15
She talks of easily lying about how great her life was while in the mansion - makes me wonder if she is overcompensating and only drawing out the bad here. It is nice to hear the other side of the coin, but doesn't feel so balanced.

Historia
Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the current mania for the memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview, a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable.

Part funny and part terrible
Revisado: 05-20-15
There were parts of this book that had me laughing out loud at the grocery store. Others that had me scratching my head in confusion at the disjointed timeline, story, or point he was trying to make.

Mixed on the descriptiveness, but would recommend.
Revisado: 03-19-15
Long and overly descriptive in some areas, but a good book with a lot of points for discussion. I think I cried for about 45 minutes as the author did such a good job of letting me get to know the characters and their emotions. (So maybe long and overly descriptive is a good think for building the characters.)

Deductive Reasoning at its Finest
Revisado: 05-11-13
The creation of a female Sherlock Holmes. I was never into the Doyle Sherlock/Watson series, but I am loving this riff on the classic concept. 'Retired' Holmes meets a young female to apprentice into deductive reasoning genius. I love that this book makes reference to the writings of Doyle as it makes me get so engrossed that I think it is a memoir from the apprentice's time with the "real" Holmes. Great start to a series.

"Stop after 1"
Revisado: 05-11-13
The first book in this series was "Shelter," and was a promising start to the series. This 2nd was a let down. The mystery and twists were still there, but the plot just felt far less believable. I'll end up reading the 3rd book to give the series another chance, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it goes better than this.

Historia
At the turn of the 20th century, in a rural stretch of the Pacific Northwest, a reclusive orchardist, William Talmadge, tends to apples and apricots as if they were loved ones. A gentle man, he's found solace in the sweetness of the fruit he grows and the quiet, beating heart of the land he cultivates. One day, two teenage girls appear and steal his fruit from the market; they later return to the outskirts of his orchard to see the man who gave them no chase. Feral, scared, and very pregnant, the girls take up on Talmadge's land and indulge in his deep reservoir of compassion.

"Tough Love: Save your credit"
Revisado: 05-11-13
I've never wished for an abridged version of a book this much before!" (okay, exaggeration, I have one other time - but this was pretty bad). There seemed to be too many sub-plots that took chapters explain that went nowhere in the big picture of the read. A hero that couldn't save, a survivor that couldn't survive, and an innocent that was actually innocent. Save your credit for something better!

"Illogically Great"
Revisado: 05-11-13
As I try to write a review, I realize that there were some aspects of the book that I did not like: A good plot with what were supposed to be twists (I think) and not totally believable. In hindsight there were tons of holes in the logic of some sub-plot, but I can't help but love it! I was Completely invested in the characters by the 3rd chapter. I was about to attack my Iphone to get the characters to cooperate with what I thought should happen next. I love when books get me that invested that early on. Overall, worth the credit and the time of reading it twice.
