Historia
Three years ago mortuary cosmetologist Phoebe Glassman lost her husband in a tragic accident. No longer the hopeful wife and mother she once was, Phoebe is disappearing into her grief and into the quietude of her job - restoring to the dead the illusion of life. Then the body of a woman named Pauline Steele arrives in the mortuary, and for Phoebe, everything changes. Pauline is unmistakably Phoebe’s mirror image and bears an alarmingly familiar tattoo. Even more startling is that among Pauline’s effects is a faded photograph of Phoebe.

Good story - poor narration
Revisado: 12-08-21
It sounds like the narrator may not speak English as a first language and compensated with stiff, robot pronunciation. The emotion was often entirely missing or just off. It’s a shame because the story would have been much more enjoyable with some emotion in the mix. Overall I felt like we didn’t get to know most characters very well but it was still an enjoyable story with twists and turns.

Just okay
Revisado: 09-01-21
Kate Rudd is one of my favorite narrators but Lauren Ezzo almost ruined the book for me. The over excitement and fake drama is exhausting and painful to listen to. Story wise it was a little slow and then everything kind of just ended. Definitely not my fav but I’m not mad I finished it.

Awful narration
Revisado: 08-28-21
I think the main male character is supposed to have an accent but it sounds like a speech impediment. I couldn’t continue to listen knowing that the narrator is intentionally speaking that way. Book wasn’t good enough to keep me listening.

Meh
Revisado: 01-27-21
I was hoping this would be a series I could enjoy easily and pass some time. Unfortunately the characters are all just overbearingly obnoxious. The main character has zero backbone and makes stupid decisions and is infuriating loyal to a stupid cause. At least give her a few redeeming qualities. The love interest is a sad sack pining away with unrequited love that suddenly isn’t unrequited after years and years? Where’s the build up? The brother is obnoxious and wholly unlikeable and the parents are even more despicable. There really isn’t any depth to any of the characters. Maybe they grow. I don’t know because I quit listening. Give me a strong female lead and some depth.

Page turner
Revisado: 04-19-19
I really enjoyed this series as a whole. I will say it’s not particularly plausible but it’s fiction so that’s okay with me. The characters have depth and the plot is entertaining. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to continue with the first book because it’s just so upsetting but I’m glad I did.
