Historia
In this groundbreaking history of the modern American metropolis, Richard Rothstein explodes the myth that America's cities came to be racially divided through de facto segregation - that is, through individual prejudices, income differences, or the actions of private institutions like banks and real estate agencies. Rather, he incontrovertibly makes clear that it was de jure segregation - the laws and policy decisions passed by local, state, and federal governments - that actually promoted the discriminatory patterns that continue to this day.

What is the real intended outcome?
Revisado: 09-30-23
The author does a good job of supporting the fact of de jury segregation, but his remedy is misguided at best. If the outcome is prosperity and happiness for Black/Aa people, and the main problem is lack of quality education and behavioral problems, change the ways schools are funded and build programs to address root causes of behavior problems. Assimilation is not an outcome that will lead to prosperity, it is a flawed process proposal.

Historia
It’s no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 16 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces listeners to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind.

Annoying content and delivery
Revisado: 07-25-23
I particularly disliked his theory about menstruation. The chimes were very annoying. This book is full of fantastical thinking not based on reality, like it’s mostly made-up sh*t or distortions of the truth. It was very difficult to get through the whole book, but it came highly recommended, so I kept waiting for a gem that never came. Bottom line: go meditate; if you can’t, do trauma therapy before you try to meditate. P.S. you will probably agree with me if you believe in existence before essence.

Real Story of Ambiguous Loss
Revisado: 03-28-22
Thank you for sharing your story as real as you could remember it and teaching us that ambiguous loss is a trauma that deserves acknowledgement through grief. Physical/mental disability is my greatest fear (more than death itself), and this book helped me realize that life still has a beautiful meaning in the aftermath.

Historia
In these brilliant essays, Lightman explores the emotional life of science, the power of imagination, the creative moment, and the alternate ways in which scientists and humanists think about the world. Along the way, he provides in-depth portraits of some of the great geniuses of our time, including Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, Edward Teller, and astronomer Vera Rubin. Thoughtful, beautifully written, and wonderfully original, A Sense of the Mysterious confirms Alan Lightman's unique position at the crossroads of science and art.

Enlightening and fascinating
Revisado: 02-09-21
Memoirish and thought provoking. I learned interesting points of view throughout the history of science. The narrator was great. He pronounced foreign words and names accurately according to the native language.
