A horrific yet satisfying return to PR.

I loved this book! This was my first Gabino story and it didn’t disappoint. This story offers a tasty mix of horror, weird, crime, action, and cultural reflection. Having spent a lot of time in Old San Juan over the past few decades, I loved going back despite the horrific circumstances of this story. Gabino brings PR to life for his readers, showing the island and its culture for what it is: simultaneously beautiful and terrifying.
I didn’t expect our waterborne friends. But I appreciate them having spent many years at sea, much of it around PR. I can imagine those reefs birthing their horrors…
I recommend the audiobook above other formats. The narration brings the culture to life and helps non-Spanish speakers naturally navigate the beauty of the language woven throughout the book.

I loved everything about this story. A reincarnated serial killer without cringy tropes? Sign me up. Cassidy’s respect for Mary’s plight as a middle aged woman trying her best to survive in a world stacked against her is apparent and refreshing. I also loved Nadine’s character. Her rough but hilarious expressions gave this story an undeniably jagged yet hilarious quality.
The audiobook narration was superb. I give this one all the stars.

I Loved This Series!

This was my first journey into Bohannon’s post-apocalyptic world and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This audiobook collection starts fast and keeps the high-pace throughout. The narrator for the story perfectly (I listened at 1.2 speed and it sounded natural), covering male and female roles with ease. Zombies, a likable yet rough around the edges MC, and a diverse cast of characters added dimension to this series that’s sadly missing in so many others these days. A great listen/read!
