Steamy, Sweet and Magical!
Revisado: 07-03-20
Love Magic was a delight in audio. For a short, it really packs in all the feels. Good thing Oliver decided to give Derrick just one more chance at a Valentine's Day date. We get to go on a preposterous series of activities punctuated by an even weirder series of mishaps, all with a delightfully steamy culmination.
Nick Hudson's voicing of both the main characters was adorable, and his performance really brought this magical love story to life.

Takes Lots of Chances
Revisado: 08-18-15
One thing that took me a while to get used to was the deliberate use of an unlikeable protagonist. It always felt like he should step up to the plate and be a better friend, a more authentic person, someone with values, but he just didn't have it in him.
I listened to this quite a while ago, though, and a lot of weird, vivid scenes are flooding back to me as I recall the bizarre hero's journey. So it obviously made an impression.
There was an instance of animal violence that went too far for me, to the point of sullying my overall enjoyment of the book. (And this was not even the grossest part of the story, when the protagonist gets mugged by some insurgents. That, I actually admired in its nastiness.)

Perfect Narrator

Any additional comments?
I read the first three books in print and initially felt too impatient to listen to it in audio, but the narrator really won me over, I think she's perfect for Angel, and brings out a kind of goofy playfulness I didn't really see in the text.
I don't really care for the infodumpy recaps about all the story canon from book to book. In print I could skim those parts.

Any additional comments?
I've read this series, and the audio brings an extra dimension to it. I love the way the narrator's voice shifts for Gray, it really accentuates the character dynamics.
