Historia
A Great Hunt has been called, and Kor'sarro Khan, Master of the Hunt, gathers the White Scars for war. They shall track their prey across the galaxy, never resting until his head is taken to be displayed in the Chapter's fortress-monastery on distant Chogoris. But this prey will be a challenge, for he is as fast and as cunning as the sons of Jaghatai and as deadly a foe as the Khan has ever faced. For on this Great Hunt, the White Scars seek the daemon prince known only as Doomrider.

Bad accent kinda throws it off
Revisado: 09-23-24
The story itself wasn’t too bad, even though it wrapped up so quickly. It was like the author had a minimum word count, realized that he had met it, and tried to finish the story as quickly as possible. My major problem with it was the narrator.
The White Scars are evocative of the Mongol people but the narrator made them sound like Night Lords. White Scars with Slavic accents just kinda kill the story because all you hear is Night Lords.

Historia
Of all the Emperor’s immortal sons, the primarchs, it is Konrad Curze whose legend is the darkest. Born in the shadows of Nostramo, a world of murderers, thieves and worse, is it any surprise that he became the figure of dread known only as the Night Haunter? Heed now the tragic story of the creature Konrad Curze, master of the Night Lords Legion, of how he became a monster and a weapon of terror. He who once served the Imperium saw the truth in a maddening universe and the hypocrisy of a loveless father, and embraced the only thing that made any sense - darkness.

In the top 5 Warhammer 40K books
Revisado: 01-14-22
Everything about this book was fantastic. The story was excellently crafted, with a great attention to detail. The stories being told within the story give great texture to the fall of the VIIIth Legion and its Primarch. There are some references to a scattering of our favorite sons of Nostramo, and we get to learn a little bit more about who they were before the legion shattered. The Night Haunter becomes so much more of a three dimensional character, and it leaves the reader thinking the same thing that those of us who play Night Lords have known for a long time.
Kurze was right.
The performance of this book was on par with the quality of the writing, and it really added an appropriate flavor to the story. All too often, we get a great book that has been wrecked by a bad narration. Thankfully, that is not the case here at all. If you’re a fan of the VIIIth, or 40K in general, you should give it a listen.

Exchanged after 45 minutes. Completely terrible.
Revisado: 11-25-20
Absolute garbage. I barely made it through the first 3 short (and I mean short) stories before I returned it. Maybe there’s something worth the time later on in the collection, but the first 3 stories were all completely horrible. Devoid of point, no actual story whatsoever, and of a similar quality to an elementary school creative writing assignment. Don’t waste your time.

Hit and miss on the stories, poor narration
Revisado: 11-10-20
This anthology was kind of a wash. A few of the stories were fairly interesting and well written, while others were difficult to get through. Unfortunately, they used the same narrator for a few stories (including the last one, Malediction) as they used on Labyrinth of Sorrows. He still sounds like he’s talking around a mouthful of saliva and thumbtacks. It’s rough to get through anything he’s reading. Additionally, that particular story, Malediction, is awful. It’s poorly written, has disjointed character development, and just flat-out isn’t an enjoyable story. The story only functions to make the Dark Angels look inquisitorial, and the last 12 minutes are non-sequitor. Skip it.

Hit or Miss Collection
Revisado: 11-04-20
The short stories in this anthology are hit or miss when it comes to their quality. The first couple of stories are pretty good, but they definitely decline as you get into the collection. Labyrinth of Sorrows is very nearly incompleteable due to the voice actor. The “actor” is absolutely horrible; his voice is annoying and he speaks as though his mouth is full of saliva and he doesn’t know how to swallow properly. It’s very difficult to get through, which is disappointing because the story itself is pretty solid. ‘Alone’ and ‘Loss’ are just weak stories and are about the equivalent quality of an undergraduate creative writing class submission. Overall, it’s about a 50% success.
