My Favorite Series Ever
Revisado: 11-30-24
I stumbled across this series, and absolutely fell in love with it. I am on my second time listening. The characters, the story, and the growth of not just Ahren, but his companions grow and overcome struggles as well.
It is a coming of age story, with incredible world building, characters you will fall in love with, and situations where you find yourself rooting for the 13th, and Culhen, and the rest of the crew.
There are some translation oddities that recur consistently. Overused and over the top versions of the intended meaning, such as 'erstwhile'. You will tire of that word lol Also, giggling. Fierce warriors don't typically giggle. And when anyone would pet Culhen, they were 'tickling' him. These are tiny things that are most likely a product of my ADHD brain nitpicking.
It is a long series, with highs and lows, and a very unique and original conclusion. Unless you are one of those people who just try to not like something, you won't be disappointed with this set.

great story, original concept on magic, rich and vibrant world
Revisado: 06-21-24
I really liked the story, and it had me from the start. Filled with emotions and trials, the characters developed nicely. Some characters were underutilized, Roine for instance. The narration was wonderful, up until around the last 3 or 4 books, which were done with the computer generated voice. All of the vibrancy the original narrator gave it was jarringly gone. Names mispronounced, unnatural flow of sentences, and the loss of the characters' voices made it hard to follow along. I think "Az-bowl" would be offended by it. Please, don't use the robo-voice in the future. It ruins an otherwise great experience.
Also, the story ended with way too much loose threads. The survivors from Tan's home town for instance. There are other instances, but this has gotten rather long. I just feel that after eleven books worth of time invested the reader expects, and deserves more than a far too short epilog to wrap it al up.
