Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Totally Enjoyable
Revisado: 10-28-23
Had an extra Audible credit and was looking for something different to listen to. Was intrigued to see that the author was also the narrator. Who better to tell the story than someone who was inspired by writing the story. I also am an audiobook narrator, and obviously love it when authors turn over the story telling to the professionals. However… I thought that the narration of this book was excellent. It was told exactly as I would imagine Sam would tell his own story. Intriguing storyline, and heartwarming characters.

Historia
When Israel Hansen purchases a dilapidated old cottage along the Maryland seaboard, it all seems too good to be true. He is a real estate salesman with a successful wife, charming little daughters, and now an idyllic vacation home. As a family, they seem to have it all. But the cottage hides a blood-chilling history more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful.

Spooky and compelling
Revisado: 03-30-23
Just finished listening to this first novel by Nick Jacobs. Loved the book and the audio version certainly did not disappoint. Alexandra Hunter did an amazing job narrating the story. Her voice was perfect for the basic narration and she created some interesting characters that just might keep you awake at night. There are lots of spooky scenes and twists and turns to keep you guessing. Loved the book and can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Historia
Ever since the suspense and horror writer Chet Williamson read The Great Gatsby in his youth, it has been his favorite novel. Indeed, he considers it The Great American Novel, and, in this new collection of F. Scott Fitzgerald's work, he presents the original first edition text along with six hilarious stories that show the lighter side of the writer's work, and reveal why Fitzgerald was one of the most popular authors of the Roaring Twenties, and remains so today.

Just WOW!
Revisado: 12-12-21
In the preface of this narration, Chet Williamson notes that The Great Gatsby is one of his favorite novels and it shows! His rich baritone voice and obvious fondness for the characters comes through in every word. His ability to set a scene and then to make it come alive to our ears is a joy. But….the real “Wow” factor in this F. Scott Fitzgerald collection comes through with the 6 short stories that follow Gatsby. Mr. Williamson’s knack for giving words life is a gift, and the tone changes with each tale. His rendering of each offering creates a unique journey for the listeners as they take in the often hilarious plots and subplots. A must listen.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Historia
Here are the life and times of T. S. Garp, the bastard son of Jenny Fields, a feminist leader ahead of her times. Here are the life and death of a famous mother and her almost-famous son; theirs is a world of sexual extremes, even of sexual assassinations. The World According to Garp is a novel rich with "lunacy and sorrow", yet the dark, violent events of the story do not undermine a comedy both ribald and robust.

An American Classic
Revisado: 08-27-12
Where does The World According to Garp rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Somehow, I missed reading this classic but was glad for the opportunity to listen to it. Loved the story and the rich characters....typical John Irving excellence. Not so impressed with the narrator and the production quality of the recording.....sounded very dated and amateurish. I would love to hear it read by a more contemporary narrator.
