What did you love best about Wheels Stop: The Tragedies and Triumphs of the Space Shuttle Program, 1986-2011?

The personal anecdotes...actual words and memories of the Astronauts and the people in Mission Control. The kind of stuff you never saw or heard on TV.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Wheels Stop: The Tragedies and Triumphs of the Space Shuttle Program, 1986-2011?

The first disaster. Those of us who saw it on TV will never forget it. RIP to them all.

What does James Killavey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

For one thing, I was able to "read" it while driving to work, jogging etc...things I could never do with a print book. The reading itself, in my opinion, was quite good..well paced and intelligently read. Hence, my five stars.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Wheels Stop is fine.

Hoping there will be more from this author on this subject and hoping he will use the same narrator. So far, this seems to be the only one by Mr. Houston.

Would you listen to 200,000 Miles aboard the Destroyer Cotten again? Why?

Very detailed look at exactly what went on in these ships during WW 2. I found it it fascinating. The latter part of the book, about the occupation of Japan was quite good..and very funny in parts!

What does James Killavey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like the narrator and thought he did a good job. However, the saying "One man's meat is another man's poison," which was first written by the Roman poet Lucretius and never gets old, seems to apply to the narrator of this book as it does to reviews of many other narrators at Audible. A lot of people like this guy, but there are a number who really dislike him. Of course that's a problem with Internet reviews. On the Internet, it's not enough to just say you don't like something.Many people have to go way over the top and rant. I get a feeling that it often has more to do with their having a bad day than is is about the narrators but..who knows? Anyway...since there are many who like this narrator but a minority who don't, I would suggest you do the sensible thing ( which most of the people who rant and rave about narrators don't seem to bother to do. ) Listen to the sample! There is enough there to let you know it he is going to be your cup of tea or not. My, I'm certainly spewing out the stock sayings today. :) I give the book and the narrator five stars but you may not so read a few of the sensible reviews and listen to the sample before you decide to get it...or not. Let your own ears be your guide.

A friend of mine lent me this recording because he thought I might be interested. I was, and decided to download my own copy. If you are in to "Navy stuff" or just WW 2 books, this is the type that warrants a second listen...Lots of detail and lots of history.

Fast paced and realistic adventure

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. Great story and a bit of a warning for the future.

What did you like best about this story?

This book is a good story and a good listen. It took me a little time to get into it but once I did I found it hard to stop listening and finished the whole thing in two days. You only have to look at the news to see why the scenarios painted in this book about the bottom falling out of our economy seem so real.

Which character – as performed by Jim Roberts – was your favorite?

He did them all very well...even the minor characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Almost - It took two days.

I was fascinated by the harrowing adventures of Ryan and Malcolm trying to escape the chaos springing up all around them as the country comes to grips with violence, food shortages and an uncertain future. When they met up with Hannah, later in the book, things got even better. If you like a fast paced story with believable characters then this book will definitely not disappoint you.

seemed too close to microphone....distorted at times.

I like how the author combined JP Beaumont and Brandon Walker together in a story. That was cool. I did not like every chapter beginning with a part of some Indian tale. A bit boring. I would have skipped those parts but not easy to do in an audio book. In spite of this, the was fast paced book and mostly held my interest.

What didn’t you like about Bill Rancic’s performance?

I think he should have hired a pro rather than read it himself. Audio quality was not good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not..too long.

Any additional comments?

Most of the book is devoted to the “business of business,” and the author explains the principles that have guided him along the way .I found his advice pretty average overall…nothing game changing but it was interesting and his comments about the show were certainly interesting. Overall, a decent read but not great.
