Where does Just Mercy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've read some impressive books in the last year but this was my favorite.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Just Mercy?

There were many moving passages. I was especially touched by the forgiveness of some of the victim's families and the change of heart by the racist prison guard.

Have you listened to any of Bryan Stevenson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm not sure if he's narrated other books but he's excellent in this one. His performance is especially impressive because he's a lawyer and not a professional narrator.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

I need to be skeptical of media reports of alleged crimes. If their sources are exclusively from law enforcement and prosecutors, it could be biased or completely false, like the allegations against Walter McMillan.

Any additional comments?

I've been critical of our prison industry for years but this book opened my eyes even more to the injustice that stacks the deck against the poor and minorities. Regardless of your political bent, this book will change the way you view the American justice system. I'd also recommend another audiobook that discusses similar themes in a different way, "The Divide" by Matt Taibbi.

What did you love best about Why We Get Fat?

I have an MS in biochemistry and can smell pseudo-science a mile away. This book is very well researched and has convinced me that most of what our culture today knows as healthy eating is anything but. If you really want to understand why we keep getting fatter and fatter while spending billions on diets and gym memberships, you owe it to yourself to read

What was one of the most memorable moments of Why We Get Fat?

I was shocked to learn diets that are essentially the Atkins Diet have been recommended since the 18th century.

Any additional comments?

I would've given 5 stars for narration had Mr. Chamberlain not mispronounced

The book and the narration were both great. This is the kind of well-researched book that changes the way you view the recent past and present. Brinkley wasn't just an evolution of the snake oil salesman, he had an important role in the rise of the modern A.M.A., medical marketing, and even country music.

Johnny Heller's narration was brisk, old-timey when appropriate, and you could tell he enjoyed the book. Yes, he mispronounced Gila monster but to deduct stars for one or two mispronounced words is pedantry.
