Are you tired of "how to publish books" that are full of fluff and no real information? I was, too. I determined to jump in and learn for myself - and that's exactly what I did. I started with my first book, How to Work from Home and Make Money, and then quickly published three more. I was looking for the topic of my fifth book when it hit me - why not share what I've learned with the people who still haven't made the leap and published their own book?

excellent book for publishing successfully in any genre
Revisado: 01-05-25
Excellent narration, one of the best narrations I've listened to in nonfiction. Very detailed inputs on every step of the process. realistic, not painted as an overly rosy picture. not one big hype. Excellent content, practical, with depth.

Historia
Not long before her 50birthday, Mackenzie Phillips walked into Los Angeles International Airport. She was on her way to a reunion of One Day at a Time, the hugely popular 70s sitcom on which she once starred as the loveable rebel Julie Cooper. Within minutes, Mackenzie was in handcuffs, arrested for possession of cocaine and heroin. But the star who turned up High on Arrival has finally come back down to earth - to stay.

story of life long drug addiction & overcoming it
Revisado: 06-05-19
Just finished reading--actually listening to this abridged audio book about McKenzie Phillips nearly life long battle with drug and alcohol addiction. MacKenzie is the narrator and that's a positive.
It's a rather sad book but uplifting in that she made to 59 and she's clean and has been for ~10 yrs now. She's on the Orange is the New Black tv series. Her last relapse before that was 10 yrs earlier.
I don't know how this woman functioned. She was born into it and she was shooting cocaine daily while pregnant wirh her son. Her famous father of the 60s Mamas and Papa's band was personal friends with Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger and others and he was a drug addict himself who had 4 children with 4 women. Life was one big party. Drugs over the top, every day of Mackenzie's life.
She did cocaine the 1st time at 11, rolled joints at 10 for her dad's friends and came out in 2009 on Oprah about a 10 year incestuous sexual relationship with her father that started in her late teens. She mostly in all her early years, was in a complete drug induced state, despite her fame as a tv and movie actress. She was a functioning junkie until she wasn't (functioning). 2009 was also the year this book came out.
The book's worth reading. She's on s different path these days, and I don't know that many or us would have made it.
I watched my longtime friend, neighbor and security colleague deteriorate for years, and until he died not long ago of a heroine overdose, I didn't know he was shooting up. I knew he was using, too many signs of that over the years and of course, all friendships ceased except those also engaged in heavy drug use.
Such a loss and devastation to these people, and also their family and friends. And yet here is Mackenzie who had made it to the other side. Not unscathed. But here she is. Standing tall.

Historia
Seventy years ago, Joe Rubinstein walked out of a Nazi concentration camp. Until now, his story has been hidden from the world. Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, 21-year-old Joe answered a knock at the door of the cottage he shared with his widowed mother and siblings. German soldiers forced him onto a crowded open-air truck. Wearing only an undershirt and shorts, Joe was left on the truck with no protection from the cold. By the next morning, several around him would be dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe, much worse.

Well told personal story of a Holocaust survivor
Revisado: 12-31-18
Finished this book--audio version. 2015 biography of a 98-year old Jewish man (today) that survived several years in Auschwitz, and lived to tell about it, and thrive. I saw this book displayed for sale at a Sponsorship workshop I attended in 2015 in Hawthorn, CA, but wanted it in audio format, not hard copy. It took me until now to make myself listen to it. It's a very good read (listen) and well told story, despite the atrocities during the German occupation of Europe --and the mass genocide of the Jewish people--and others. Mr. Rubinstein introduces each chapter orally, but he is not the reader. It's a compelling well told story. He never saw or heard about the rest of his immediate family again. They disappeared from Radom, Poland, after he was picked up during a late night door knock by the Nazis. Joe never loses his faith. I've read many of the books for this era, non-fiction told and written by survivors or their families, and this might be the best. None are good because you just wish this could not have happened. You can buy the hard copy but the audio is most compelling. The writer and the reader do an exceptional job of telling Joe's story. I have had the privilege of hearing a few holocaust survivors tell their story in person, and I'm thankful for Joe making time to tell his in this book.

Historia
At first glance Gabriel Cardona is the poster-boy American teenager: great athlete, bright, handsome, and charismatic. But the streets of his border town of Laredo, Texas, are poor and dangerous, and it isn't long before Gabriel abandons his promising future for the allure of the Zetas, a drug cartel with roots in the Mexican military. His younger friend, Bart, as well as others from Gabriel's childhood join him in working for the Zetas, boosting cars and smuggling drugs, eventually catching the eye of the cartel's leadership.

excellent story on high school boys in MX cartels
Revisado: 07-15-18
but no good end. I hated the inhumanity of it all and there is no happy ending. It profiled 2boys and their separate lifestyles, both comimg out of Laredo TX. One was a Mexican, who turns to law enforcement and is a policeman. he eventually works up to the DEA. the other boy starts selling drugs for easy money and not necessary a way out of a bad life like some. this 2nd one was white, an American and ended up wuockly with the cartel.one of several and their battles, he was with the Zetas. I hated the story that is real, all the horror and violence by these young high school boys--and girls who play both sides to help the cartels--who traffic in drugs, people, currency and weapons. it's a centuries old problem the drugs but the cartels ate more recent and own so much of the country, but they've also permeated much of the US to all ends of our borders, because we are the drug market. The whole enforcement model--a losing end game--fighting a tide sucking you out to drop--ignores the market side, it only goes after the supply side. there is happy end, it's just a horrible story of violence, loss of endless lives, etc. if you're part of the demand side, you're part of the problem, and I do t want you anywhere in my life. it's a we'll researched, bwell written and we'll narrated book that will keep you interested and educate you more on the drug trade and all that's wrapped up with it, in Mexico, and permeation across the US borders.

Gold Dust Woman gives "the gold standard of rock biographers" (the Boston Globe) his ideal topic: Nicks' work and life are equally sexy and interesting, and Davis delves deeply into each, unearthing fresh details from new, intimate interviews and interpreting them to present a rich new portrait of the star. Just as Nicks (and Lindsay Buckingham) gave Fleetwood Mac the "shot of adrenaline" they needed to become real rock stars - according to Christine McVie - Gold Dust Woman is vibrant with stories and with a life lived large and hard.

we'll researched well told story of Stevie Nick's
Revisado: 05-29-18
dark story about Stevie Nick's and Fleetwood Mac, drugs and excesses. Fir years and years, and all that goes with drug abuse (cocaine) .if I didn't like Stevie Nick's before, I sure don't now. no wonder the downer songs she did especially as a solo act. It explains a lot. Self absorbed performer. the book was well told tbe story is sadly too common in this world. we will just have to be happy this band brought us the music.

Historia
In a quiet Dublin suburb, within her pristine home, Eleanor Costello is found hanging from a rope. Detective Chief Superintendent Frankie Sheehan would be more than happy to declare it a suicide. Four months ago, Frankie's pursuit of a killer almost ended her life. But the autopsy reveals poorly healed bones and old stab wounds, absent from medical records. A new cut is carefully, deliberately covered in paint. Eleanor's husband, Peter, is unreachable, missing. A search of the couple's home reveals only two signs of personality.
