Historia
Jason Goodyear is the star outfielder for the Los Angeles Lions, stationed with the rest of his team in the punishingly hot Arizona desert for their annual spring training. Handsome, famous, and talented, Goodyear is nonetheless coming apart at the seams. And the coaches, writers, wives, girlfriends, petty criminals, and diehard fans following his every move are eager to find out why - as they hide secrets of their own.

Thoroughly captivating!
Revisado: 02-18-20
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the Cactus League. Whether or not you’re a baseball fan, you’ll love this book. It’s not told from the perspective of an insider, but rather the perspective of multiple insiders. The agents, the owners, the coaches, the players, the groupies, the wives, etc, they all get their moment in the spotlight to talk about their lives lived alongside a favorite baseball team. A must read/listen!

Loved it!
Revisado: 01-10-20
I absolutely loved this book. Broken into three sections with three different narrators, the book really speaks to questions about what is fiction and what is fact as well as some of the nuances of the #MeToo movement. The story takes place in an arts high school in the 80s in a southern town, all of which I found to be an intriguing combination. I’m going to read more Susan Choi after this one!

Historia
Banished is an eye-opening, deeply personal account of life inside the cult known as the Westboro Baptist Church, as well as a fascinating story of adaptation and perseverance. Since no organized religion will claim affiliation with the WBC, it's perhaps more accurate to think of them as a cult. Lauren Drain was thrust into that cult at the age of 15, and then spat back out again seven years later. Banished is the story of Lauren's fight to find herself amidst dramatic changes in a world of extremists and a life in exile.

This book was OK
Revisado: 06-04-18
It is always supremely interesting to hear a story like this one. However, I am an avid audiobook listener and reader, and had just finished 4 books in a row before starting this one. Lauren Drain is not a wordsmith. There are times, especially when she’s talking about how much the westboro Baptist Church prioritized intellectual pursuits and being “smart” that felt forced given her lazy sentence structure. Sorry if that’s rude.
I also didn’t feel the book gave the insight into how someone could see “god hates fags” as a positive message. I was hoping for more self reflection and and explanation.
Nonetheless, I did listen to the whole thing in a single day so maybe I am being overly harsh myself! It truly is interesting to hear an insider’s story.

First listened to Little Fires Everywhere and downloaded this right after. Both books are a joy to listen to with their complex relationships and interesting layered characters. Loved every minute!

Historia
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she's thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy. But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office.

Took me a couple tries, but well worth it
Revisado: 05-27-18
I’m easily distracted and it took me restarting this book a couple time. Let’s be honest, that’s not a good son. But soon I was hooked.
Eleanor Oliphant is a fascinating character and I was completely wrapped up in her strange mind, mysterious background, and potential love life for the rest of the book. Definitely give this one a shot. It’s going to stay with me a long time.
