I feel like this book was sooooo drawn out. there was SO much redundancy that it could have been a blog post, or a 1-hour book. I'm so glad I didn't spend too much money on this or I'd feel cheated.

the content was really good and important though. (even though it could be summarized in about 1 paragraph)

hard to follow

I found the writing and the narration to be over-dramatic, and the plot hard to follow. there wasn't a lot of character development within the first few minutes of the book, so the characters didn't stand out in my mind, they felt vague. basically the whole thing felt over-done and melodramatic.

a gripping, detailed, quick read

This book outlines the story of the Kurim Case, a case taking place in another country, and it reads like a report or a professional document. It is not a novel, but the story is still written with the intention to get the reader's attention, ask questions, bring to to a climax, and leave with a conclusion.

In the beginning of the work, he warns the reader that there are some details that someone with sensitivity should be cautious of. This warning was only mildly warranted; there were only a few instances where the torture endured by the victims was outlined in such graphic detail, and in the scheme of things, by a fluent reader of crime novels, it was some of the less violent and disturbing that I've read. That being said, if you can't get through your typical crime novel, or a James Patterson torture scene, best leave this one off your list.

All in all, I tore through it very quickly (it's short, so I listened at work, and read it in one sitting). It kept me engaged and interested, and I'm very satisfied with the work as a whole. I would have liked just a little more detail and breakdown of the mental disorders and psychological influence that happened (I love that kind of stuff) but for a fan of true crime who wants a quick engaging read, this is a great book!

The narrator was also very good. Narrators can make or break an audiobook production, and E. Sprance definitely made it.

what the actual...

Starts with preppy and bouncy music, and an over-excited pep talk that doesn't seem to end. It compares people to a cotton plant, and then evolved from a pep talk into common sense and obvious phrases. Yes you are a special and unique snowflake with a purpose in the universe, but how do I make money? never really gets to that. I shut it off before I threw up.

fast-paced and exciting!

This was a rare gem; I was offered this title free in exchange for a review and I'll admit it was the cover that caught my attention. The story being great and the narration being pretty great was an added bonus.

I love dystopian fiction and I love thriller, action, adventure (for more audiobooks like this, you can see my reviews on my website, thelifeandlies.com) It didn't take long for me to get into this story, and it kept me intrigued the whole time.

bad narration

The narration on this was so slow, and so bad, I couldn't get 3 minutes into the book. Maybe I would have enjoyed the story if I'd read it, but the audio is horrible. Sorry.

cute story, lots of words I don't know

This story takes place in another country, another culture, that I am not familiar with... maybe India? There are some words and names that were odd to me, and I feel like some kids would get lost and confused by them. but, even with that, it was a cute, fun, short story about dogs going on an adventure to find the world's biggest donut. this would be good for a car ride or quiet time.

Horrible narrator.... horrible.

Poorly read, choppy, bad accents, and placed stress on the wrong parts of the sentence, and she had a weird almost-but-not-quite-lisp. I think I could have gotten through this if I'd been reading it, but this narration was nuts. shoot, even listening to a robotic voice would have been better. Sorry, but I had to cut it off!

I felt like it threw me into the middle of a story and it was confusing and disorientating. Not a good foundation build-up in the beginning and it left me frustrated.
