Historia
In the 1970s, the ultimate trip for any backpacker was the storied “Hippie Trail” from Istanbul to Kathmandu. A 23-year old Rick Steves made the trek, and like a travel writer in training, he documented everything along the way: jumping off a moving train, making friends in Tehran, getting lost in Lahore, getting high for the first time in Herat, battling leeches in Pokhara, and much more. The experience ignited his love of travel and forever broadened his perspective on the world.

A delightful journey
Revisado: 05-04-25
Rick captures the spirit of real travel, not so much to reach a place as to explore and share with people along the way. Bravo to Rick for building a lifetime from his live of travel. The book brought good trips, experiences, and people from my own travels. I look forward to more, from Rick and from myself.

Historia
In an elegant apartment in Paris, forensic expert Enzo Macleod, now 56 years old, pores over the scant evidence of the sixth and final cold case he has been challenged to solve. The most obvious suspect is Régis Blanc, a former pimp already imprisoned for the murders of three sex workers, who may have been Lucie's lover in the months before her disappearance.

Well presented, but too complex to listen to rather than read
Revisado: 04-28-25
Wonderful characters and presentation. But listening rather than reading (where one can easily turn back and refresh one’s recollection) was a challenge for me.

Revisado: 12-25-23
A fascinating story with powerful plots and characters intertwining. Larson delves into the biographical, scientific, and historical issues with great gusto and detail, both a strength and a weakness of his writing. Excellent presentation.

Historia
Wallace Stegner's uniquely American classic centers on Lyman Ward, a noted historian who relates a fictionalized biography of his pioneer grandparents at a time when he has become estranged from his own family. Through a combination of research, memory, and exaggeration, Ward voices ideas concerning the relationship between history and the present, art and life, parents and children, and husbands and wives.

Historia
From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

The first chapters were terrific, then it Bame boring
Revisado: 06-26-23
The chapters about the young boy and his uncle, a combat veteran with issues, were excellent. But at some point the book shifted to the making of a motion picture, and this became much too much about too little. Ultimately disappointing, even though I’ve always liked Tom Hanks.

Brings Nelson Mandela back to us. So important to recall his life and the gréât victory of freedom in South Africa. This is especially so as his beloved ANC is beset by indecision, division, and corruption. May we all take his model and example to heart.
