Historia
When Maud Marsh flings herself into George Bevan's cab in Piccadilly, he starts believing in damsels in distress. George traces his mysterious traveling companion to Belpher Castle, home of Lord Marshmoreton, where things become severely muddled. Maud's aunt, Lady Caroline Byng, wants Maud to marry Reggie, her stepson. Maud, meanwhile, is known to be in love with an unknown American she met in Wales. So when George turns up speaking American, a nasty case of mistaken identity breaks out.

Charming!
Revisado: 10-20-22
This was my first introduction to Wodehouse and I was hopeful, knowing the fabulous reputation, yet doubtful, because I don’t care for slapstick comedy. Lucky me, the comedy mostly didn’t make me uncomfortable, and I frequently found myself laughing out loud as the story leisurely unfolded one crazy scenario after another.
The omniscient POV was fun, and many characters escaped caricature and became people. (Evidence of PGW’s talent IMO, as caricature would have sufficed, though it might not have been as enjoyable.)
The narrator is terrific, deftly making character voices distinct, and did a good job with George’s American accent (though I didn’t think he did quite so well with Billie…) This is a peeve for me as an American who loves British stories-I hate floating blissfully along only to be brought up short by an “American” accent that sounds like no human I’ve ever heard speak in my life. Anyway! Very pleased with narrator!
Highly recommend if you want a funny, charming, comedy of errors with a big heart! Especially love this is part of the plus catalog (for a while, anyway?).

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 07-02-22
If you are familiar with Onley James you know her writing is best enjoyed with a heaping helping of suspended disbelief. Having said that, this book made it hard, though to be fair it might have been more enjoyable as a read rather than a listen. (I usually read before I buy in audio but I didn’t this time.)
I really really disliked the narrator. He mispronounced words (annoying but forgivable) and his choices for the characters’ voices were sometimes…unfortunate. The worst for me was how stiff and unnatural he made Gideon sound, The sex/sexy scenes in particular made me cringe just because of the way Gideon sounded. And let’s face it, in a book like this, if the sex scenes don’t work it’s hard to salvage anything else.
I loved the Necessary Evils series and had planned to get them in audio, but if they have the same narrator it’s a no go. I sincerely hope this is just early work for him and that he improves with time and experience.

Historia
The Other End of the Leash shares a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs, focusing on our behavior in comparison with that of dogs. An applied animal behaviorist and dog trainer with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell looks at humans as just another interesting species, and muses about why we behave the way we do around our dogs, how dogs might interpret our behavior, and how to interact with our dogs in ways that bring out the best in them.

Fascinating, Moving and Useful!
Revisado: 02-11-22
This is a wonderful book, one I suspect I will listen to again and again. More than simple dog training, this is information about animal behavior, and how the differences between primate and canine communication can get us into trouble and how we primates can do better.
With an almost seamless blend of personal and professional information, the book is interesting and entertaining while it imparts valuable information to anyone who wants a better relationship with the dogs in their life.
The narrator has a lovely voice, low and calm while still sounding very feminine. (This may seem like an odd comment, but I’m sometimes put off by female narrators whose voices are high or sharp sounding.) I would definitely seek out more work from this narrator.
Now I’m off to look up the author and see what else she’s published or put on the internet. HIGHLY Recommend!!!

Historia
Once luxury was available only to the rarefied and aristocratic world of old money and royalty. It offered a history of tradition, superior quality, and a pampered buying experience. Today, however, luxury is simply a product packaged and sold by multibillion-dollar global corporations focused on growth, visibility, brand awareness, advertising, and, above all, profits. Award-winning journalist Dana Thomas digs deep into the dark side of the luxury industry to uncover all the secrets that Prada, Gucci, and Burberry don’t want us to know.

Fascinating look at the history of luxury brands
Revisado: 01-10-22
This book is not really up to date (I’m writing this in 2022), but it doesn’t really suffer for that, as the meat of it is the history and changes over time of various brands, the people who created and sold (and sold out), and the people who purchased and used (and stole and counterfeited)-all the big names and heavy hitters in the luxury business. Thomas is a good writer and I actually enjoyed it more as an audiobook than when I read it several years ago.
Thomas has a very pleasant, low voice and (to my untutored ear) does very well with the abundance of non-English names and words. There is an occasional…hesitation? in the reading, a pause here and there that’s just the teeniest bit too long, but it’s not really frequent and didn’t impact my enjoyment of the book.
All in all I highly recommend!

Terrible Choice of Narrator
Revisado: 04-18-21
The narrator is new (in my experience) to the series and was a poor choice. Everyone was voiced with British(!) accents and he managed to make Elettra sound simple and foolish. He didn’t even pronounce Chiara’s name correctly!
The story, like many in the series is really grim and sad, with no feeling of justice or resolution, but I kind of expect that from Leon/Brunetti. I would have given up on this one immediately but I really wanted to see what would happen next with Brunetti and Elettra after the events of the last book, but even that was disappointing.
I do think the narrator would be good for a book set in Britain, but I think he needs to stay away from Italy.

That’s why werewolves embark on a Howling: a three-year rite of passage in which they’re sent to a group residence to wrestle with their wolfy instincts and assimilate into the Wider World. Recommend!
Revisado: 02-20-21
I love both this writer and narrator, but there’s something about this book that keeps me from 100% joy. I think it’s because of the insecurity and self-doubt both MCs have with each other. It’s understandable in the plot circumstances, and well written, just kind of personally annoying to me. I think perhaps the combination of text and narration kind of keeps that (mild) irritation at the forefront of my listening experience.
Having said that, it’s a great story and I’ve read AND listened to it more than once, so take my complaint for what it’s worth. Ms. Russell writes a wonderful and complex paranormal tale, which both stands alone AND fits into an existing universe, and Mr. Boudreaux is one of the most talented narrators I’ve listened to, so definitely recommend!

Amazing Fascinating Interesting Do Not Miss!
Revisado: 12-29-20
I cannot say enough about good things about this wonderful book! The narrator’s voice was pleasant (very feminine and a bit high and perky, but not annoying in the way I sometimes find female voices), and she did a very good job with the material.
And the material is just amazing! This is a book I will listen to again and again, taking notes and picking up on all of the subtleties. The information (OMG SO much information) is presented in a factual way and is specific enough that I could choose to act on it in various ways, depending on the outcome I want to achieve.
I’m seriously ready to start this over from the beginning, and listen again, and again! It’s fascinating just because, but there is so much that can be incorporated into choosing how you eat, drink, party… I just can’t say enough-if you are at all interested in food and drink I beg you to try it!

Wonderful Gothic Romance
Revisado: 04-08-20
Initially I was put off by the narrator, but it wasn’t long before I was drawn into the story to the point where The voice no longer mattered.
I really enjoyed this story and will totally be looking for more from this author. I generally don’t enjoy children in my leisure reading but the twins were an integral part of the story and very well done. I also really enjoyed the ghosts, and hoped for some sort of afterlife HEA for one of them. I would sooo love for the author to write a short about that!
Ahem, at any rate, I almost passed on this when I listened to the sample, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. If this seems like the sort of thing you like, then I think you will love it!

Lord Courtenay has been called many things and has never much cared. But after the publication of a salacious novel supposedly based on his exploits, he finds himself shunned from society. Unable to see his nephew, he is willing to do anything to improve his reputation, even if that means spending time with the most proper man in London. Julian Medlock has spent years becoming the epitome of correct behavior. As far as he cares, if Courtenay finds himself in hot water, it's his own fault for behaving so badly - and being so blasted irresistible.

Lovely Romance
Revisado: 02-17-20
This is a nice story, with good narration. I would like to have seen a little more between the main characters at their HEA, as well as a little more of Eleanor and her husband’s quiet but intense love story, but imagination suffices.
I kind of consider KJ Charles as my lodestone with regard to period gay romance, but Cat Sebastian is right up there in talent and execution, and I highly recommend her work!
