Molly becomes a rags-to-riches sensation, and a media frenzy swirls as she prepares to sell her priceless treasure.

This may be the last of the series, as everything seemed pretty tidy at the end, but it is light and entertaining. With all the world's worries, listening to something where the main characters are good people is nice.

Very much enjoyed this light mystery. Harriett and her friends are very likeable and the mystery kept me wondering. Hope to see a second book in this series. Good narration.

An Entertaining Historical Mystery
Revisado: 02-09-25
I enjoy books that feature women who are ahead of their time. Women who dare to try and break barriers. This was a well-developed and well-written story that was engaging and entertaining. The main two characters were likable, and one looks forward to meeting them again as they continue to combine their talents in solving mysteries and crimes. And of course, their developing feelings for one another. The narration was perfection.

Historia
Florence, the 1550s. Lucrezia, third daughter of the grand duke, is comfortable with her obscure place in the palazzo: free to wonder at its treasures, observe its clandestine workings, and to devote herself to her own artistic pursuits. But when her older sister dies on the eve of her wedding, Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage, and her father just as quick to accept on her behalf. Having barely left girlhood behind, Lucrezia must make her way in a court whose customs are opaque and where her arrival is not universally welcomed.

Five Star Plus Story and Narrator
Revisado: 10-01-22
I loved this book and could not stop listening to it. It is always amazing the difference a narrator makes and Genevieve Gaunt is perfect for this book. If you're looking for a fast paced book this isn't for you. It is beautifully descriptive. I often think that books I really like are better enjoyed by reading them but this book is so beautifully read by Gaunt that it made me feel that I was right there in the room with the protagonists and in the middle of a play.
I think another reviewer wrote a most succinct review when she spoke to the unrelenting tension of this book, and O'Farrell's writing of a man's world and women's place in it. Despite the problems in our imperfect world I am constantly reminded of how fortunate we are as women in this time of history.

Well written, humorous, excellent narration.
Revisado: 09-24-22
I rate books within a genre and within the mystery category these definitely fall into the five star category for me. The characters are so well developed and the two main women are so different yet so similar. The writing is very good and there is so much humor which the narrator enhances. This series is very entertaining and keeps you guessing however nothing too violent. Looking forward to the next book.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

A Fun Read/Listen
Revisado: 01-20-22
I enjoyed this book so much. Just what is needed right now with so many difficult things going on in our world. The main character is a delight and although the plot is unrealistic in so many ways, it also makes one believe that there are good people out there. At least in this novel. The narration is spot on. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Folks in Moab live for ice cream socials, baseball, and the local paper’s weekly gossip column. Sheriff Winston Browne has watched over Moab with a generous eye for a decade, and by now he’s used to handling the daily dramas that keep life interesting for Moab’s quirky residents. But just after Winston receives some terrible, life-altering news, a seemingly mute runaway with no clear origin arrives in Moab. The residents do what they believe is right and take her in - until two suspicious strangers arrive and begin looking for her.

So Good
Revisado: 01-09-22
If you're of a certain age this book will be even more special as it will bring back so many memories of the fifties. If not, it is still a book that will delight. It has it all and seems so innocent compared to today's world. It is humorous, good, sad but a good sad and has a mystery that is also of the fifties. The latter perhaps a little far fetched but adds a little excitement to the book. The characters are all wonderful and wonderfully drawn. One of the best lighter books I've read in some time. Highly recommend this book and the narration by the author is perfect.

So good but so sad. Minor Spoiler.
Revisado: 12-18-21
This book is so sad but beautifully written. At times I wanted to stop reading/listening but I couldn’t. It’s about a daughter who dies shortly into the book and how she dies is the main thread of the book but It’s also about a mixed race marriage in the 50’s and how that affects both the parents and the children. It’s also about lost dreams. A mother who dreamt of being a doctor and then meets a man and gets pregnant. A mother who then projects her dreams onto her daughter. A mother who abandons her husband and children for awhile and the forever ramifications from that. How it scars the children. Her relentlessness in raising her daughter to be what she wanted to be to the neglect of the other children. The father a good man but a passive man. What parents do to their children. For their own good. It’s heart breaking. But I’m still thinking about it.

Great narration, good story and likable characters along with interesting information regarding Calcutta India and the British around 1918. The author is a good story teller and pulled me in right from the beginning. I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Not Allowed to Review Narrator per Audible
Revisado: 10-09-19
Nope I'm living in Russia. Shame On You Audible. What? You think one review of a narrator that isn't positive is going to stop people from listening. I'm sure there are people who like her and they are free to say what they think and I should be able to say what I think. I'm truly shocked and I'm not being facetious that my review is not being allowed to be printed.
I gave the story itself two stars because I actually stuck with it for over half the book but finally it just seemed too sappy for words. It never fails to amaze me how the reviews for a book can vary from "loving it" to "it's awful." So subjective. Maybe if Xe Sands' narration doesn't bother you and you want a beach read/fall read book, this might be for you. Not for me.
