The narrator was incredible as was the plot and the descriptive writing.
Revisado: 09-15-24
Suspenseful, compelling, a fine mystery with many twists and turns. If you enjoy Chris Bohjalian, Abraham Verghese, Ruth Ware or Anna Quindlen’s this book is worth the credit. One of my favorites so far in 2024.

Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

Learned a great deal about the South from a historical viewpoint.
I truly enjoyed how there were two chronological storylines that wove themselves together.
The end of the book was very satisfying.

Great book but agree with other comments re the short length. Would have loved a bit more background on both sisters lives.
I wish it could have been at least a 6 hour book as I enjoyed it so much. Writing and performance are great. Ended too soon.

Enjoyed the book for its subject matter
Revisado: 12-31-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes if the market crash of the 1980's interests you.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character Christina as she descriptively describes the two entirely opposite lives she lived with wealth and without wealth after her father's deception.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Christina McDowell?
No, this was the downfall of this audiobook. Needed a professional narrator. Monotone and actually took away from the author's own book as she narrated herself.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When the main character actually accepted the fact her father was a white collar criminal.

Historia
Nick and her cousin Helena grew up in a world of sun bleached boat docks, tennis whites, and midnight gin parties at Tiger House, the family home on Martha's Vineyard. In the wake of the Second World War, the two women are on the cusp of starting their "real lives": Helena is off to Hollywood and a new marriage to the charismatic Avery Lewis, while Nick is heading for a reunion with her own husband, Hughes Derringer, about to return from the war. The world seems rife with possibility, but the gilt soon begins to crack.

Narrator sounded like Nazi general
Revisado: 07-27-12
What made the experience of listening to Tigers in Red Weather the most enjoyable?
Three fourths of the narration was fine but about one fourth of the time the narrator harshly spewed out "he said" "she said" etc. It became distracting and soon found myself thinking why in heavens name did the author write this over and over again?
Plot good, story intriguing but narration left something to be desired.

Would you consider the audio edition of This Time Together to be better than the print version?
Easy book to listen while also doing another activity such as gardening. Nice it was narrated by Carol Burnett herself.
What does Carol Burnett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
You can hear the emotion in her voice when she describes events in her life that have been difficult for her. You feel like a friend is speaking to you.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh and yes cry a little too.

Plot predictable, character development shallow and narrator totally annoying. If Barbie the doll could talk she would sound like the character Daisy in this audiobook. Don't waste a credit. You will be able to pick the paperback up for free in the near future is my bet.
