Anne Bishop writes a great story; I listen to the ebooks because I so enjoy the written. Narrator is disappointing, sounding like a schoolgirl even by the third book.

I really enjoy this series. Story telling is an art that Faith Hunter has mastered. Reader is great, capturing accents & intonation better than most.

Glad the story continues and we can "see" the children growing up. Reader was good, and I enjoyed listening; happy that Janelle did not have an irish-style accent. However, Tersa has never seemed hag-like & voicing her as such was not appropriate...or respectful of her character.

When an antique bridal quilt appears under mysterious circumstances at the vintage clothing shop where Rachel Grant works, she is fascinated. She has never been able to resist handmade textiles from the past, for she believes that through the ages women wove protective magic into their fabrics in order to mark the important events of their lives: birth, marriage, and death.

This is a wonderful story. I make quilts for friends and family, so the idea of someone using a "comforter" to hold a spell or charm to cause discomfort or unhappiness makes me shiver. But, that is what good mystery stories do, and this one delivered. Barbara Rosenblat did a fine job with the story-telling, as she always does.

Anne Bishop's Black Jewels novels are some of my favorites. I can "hear" character voices as I read from the descriptions she has provided for the individuals. Which is probably why I was disappointed in John Sharian's performance of voices and accents. In all my reading of these books I never imagined a skewed irish-type accent for anyone.

Historia
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

This was a pager-turner for me. The story and characters were so believable, and it moved along well; no gaps or unexplained history to guess at. Narration was well done for the most part. Voice was not real strong, but characterizations were good.

Cadfael's return to his Welsh homeland for a visit proves a rather discomfiting homecoming when an honorable nobleman turns up in a patch of forest with an arrow embedded in his chest. There are questions about the arrow, the man's daughter needs Cadfael's help, and a very odd burial takes place.

Revisado: 02-18-20
I first read Ellis Peter's Brother Cadfael stories years ago. As mystery stories they are some of my favorites, with characters and plot appropriate for the time period. The reading by Patrick Tull is wonderful, most definitly the gruff type of characterization expected for a solder who led an active life before deciding to retire to a monestary for the remainder of his life.
